    Stuck in CWM

I have an original MK808 (not B). I was stupid and frustrated last night and tried to flash the damn thing the way I would an Android device, using CWM and the update from Zip method. Well, I must have flashed a kernel or system or ROM that was not compatible (I tried to flash MK808B_digitopMod_v3.5.5 XBMC -- after switching out the kernel for an MK808 one as instructed here). Now, I am stuck in CWM.

Luckily, I had CWM installed. Unluckily, and I have no idea how this happened, I did not create a backup in CWM before flashing!!!!! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! I do this religiously on my Android phones, and I just have no idea why I didn't here.

Anywho, now my MK808 only starts up in CWM mode. When I select "reboot system now," nothing -- I actually lose the HDMI connection until the boot times out and goes back to CWM.

Note that I can "flash" new zips, but even though CWM says it worked, when I try to reboot everything goes dark. I tried to use Legolas's tool to use CWM to flash Finless's 1.7 boot, kernel, and system. Again, CWM went through the "update" process and said all was good -- but I when I hit "reboot system now," nothing.

I also tried the flash tool from Finless, and it does not find the device.

Any ideas? Should I assume it is bricked and just do the unbrick method of shorting pins 8 and 9? I held off on this because it DOES boot into CWM.

I'm hoping one of you experts can tell me a better way. Please help??

you will have to get your pc to recognize the stick then flash rk tool. I have driver install in my rom if you want to give a shot...win 7 is best and usb 2.0 not 3.

Thanks Prahjister. I tried to flash your ROM 1.0 MK808(B) 2/8/14. CWM output the following after the thank you comments:
      Boot is flashed
      SYstem extracted
      System flashed
      Misc.img flashed
CWM-based Recocery for RK366 is installed ty to fun...
All done. Enjoy and thanks to Bob Finless and developers team in Freaktab.com for this rom.
      Install from sd card complete.

I then hit "reboot system now" in CWM. Whereas before the MK808 would load into CWM, now it just gives "no signal" to my TV. I also tried to use the ROM Flash tool. It didn't recognize the MK808. I'm not sure, but I think that killed it!

If anyone can help, please let me know. . . .

As Prahjister mentioned, using RKBatchTool (Can be found within any Finless ROM package in a folder called "alternate reboot to flash tool") to flash a ROM that is in .img format is a go-to method to fixing a botched flash. Do not use Windows 8/8.1, otherwise you'll probably run into issues. I've tried some of the workarounds to get flashing to work in Win 8.1 with no success... I always just go back to Win 7 when I need flashing done. Read finless readme.txt for info on how to install the driver. I always do the "paperclip" method (from the readme) to flash.

Assuming you don't have a clone, I think you can get a stock .img ROM for MK808 from here http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php...core-tv-stick/

Edit: by the way, Windows driver installation info is all in the Finless readme, but if you want, you can try this http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php...download-here/ (Check comments for info about Win 8 driver as well as Win 8.1 instructions, but trust me, if you want to save yourself a lot of trouble, just use Win 7)

Thanks all. The Widows method did not work, didn't even see the MK. I tried both of the Finless tools. And I've tied all 3 methods with the reset button. But I was in 8. I will try to use 7 through a virtual machine and report back.

One thing: the Finless instructions say to load the drivers after the tool recognises the device. I never got it to recognize, so I never got to the drivers. Is this incorrect?

You need to be holding down the button using a paperclip before you even plug it into the usb port. You'll feel and hear a click when the button is being pressed down. The usb cable should be connected to the port labelled "OTG". Yes, it is awkward to have to hold the button down while connecting the cable to your computer. I usually put the mk808 on a flat surface so that I can get leverage to push the button with a paperclip without needing two hands.

Everything is detailed quite well in the finless readme --- you pretty much hear the Windows "usb recognition" noise once you connect the usb cable, but the drivers don't automatically install. You need to click start, then right-click Computer and select Manage, then go to Device Manager and find the "unknown usb device" in the list. Right click it and select "install driver" (or update driver?). Then of course you locate the folder where the driver is saved. Finless does not include the Win 8 driver, but as I said before, Eric on Geekbuying posted it in the comments section of that page. I would expect the worst when using Win 8 to flash, though --- especially Win 8.1 which has been confirmed to require a workaround involving editing the RKBatchTool configuration file ( http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php...n-windows-8-1/ ) As I said, I tried this, and it still didn't work. Also, flashing in a virtual machine sounds like a bad idea...

First, thanks for your post. I appreciate the detailed information. Unfortunately, I only have Windows 8. I did try it in 8 -- again, before I saw that was not preferred -- and I don't get the "usb recognition" noise. I get nothing. I have it set up as you describe: usb cable to the OTG port, putting a needle in the second (non-blue light) hole and pressing down for the click (I have a bandaid on my thumb, so it actually doesn't hurt), then plugging in the USB to the computer. I've done this about 10 times -- making sure the button is down -- and I get no response from Windows or the MK808 once I plug in the USB.

So, given that I only have Windows 8, is a Virtual Windows 7 better or worse? Not sure what else to do except try to short the pins.

I've made tons of flashing mistakes and I've still never needed to short the pins.

I would try a different USB port. This sounds dumb, but it solved a problem for me in the past...

With the mk808 connected to the computer, go to device manager anyway, expand the different hardware sections, and see if "unrecognized usb device" shows up anywhere.

As for the virtual machine, I have thought of doing the same, but I've never read of anyone doing it.

Well, I tried everything -- different cables, different USB ports, and different (virtual) Windows versions. Nothing worked. I can't get the USB sound after plugging it in -- no matter how long or in which manner I hold down the reset button.

I am going to try the pin short method.

Tried to short the pins. No luck. This thing is officially dead.

If you can still get into CWM, see if you can find a CWM Zip of a MK808 ROM. Otherwise, use a different computer to flash.
