S89-h frequently hangs and requires hard reboot (104K4 & 1.6 finless roms)

I've been using my new S89-h for 3 days now, and I tried both the official new 104k4 rom and the custom 1.6 rom by finless, and in both roms I found the same couple of issues:

    1. Cordless keyboards and mice connected using a USB receiver are unstable - they work fine for a few minutes and then lag horribly for a couple of minutes -- and then come back and work fine.
I tried both Logitech K400 wireless keyboard (which I loved using on my previous HTPC prior to getting the Tronsmart) and a remote control air mouse (http://www.dx.com/p/c-s-a8-mermaid-2...2#.U4hDi_mSwtg).
Both seem to have this lagging problem. The lag _doesn't_ happen with the remote control included with the device! So maybe it's a USB thing? An Android compatibility thing? I tried both connecting the USB recievers directly to the device and also through a powered USB hub - same lag.

    2. When using XBMC or a 3D game like Asphalt 8 everything is working fine and fluid. Actually, better than fine - Asphalt looks and plays great with the G910 gamepad! But after one race (or a few minutes doing stuff in XBMC) the device gets stuck and nothing helps but a hard 10 seconds turn off and on again using the back button on the device.

I disconnected all USB accessories (Keyboard and webcam) but it still happened. Again, this seems to happen both on the official ROM and the finless custom ROM.
Is my device defective (hope not)? Is there a log somewhere I can check what caused the crashes? I'm new to android - my first device. I'm willing to spend some time on this if it helps find bugs in the ROM - I love what this device can do! Just want it to continue doing it without crashing

    1. => if you also use 2.4GHz WiFi try a 'USB extension cable' and place the dongle as far as possible away from the device (maybe helps)...

+1 I always use usb extension for my minix a2 and k400r but that's because my internet seems not to work if I plug receiver directly.

I didn't encounter the rest of the problem that u had. If it still persist, send it back for replacement.

First problem look like 2.4GHZ interference with WIFI
        Second problem- looks like overheating.

          To be sure, monitor it:

Hi and thanks for the replies.

It seems that you were right on the first issue - I connected the USB receivers to a hub about a meter away from the device and the Logitech K400 now works perfectly. The Remote Control Air Mouse is still a little wonky but I think it's not the S89's fault.

Regarding the second hanging issue - I installed the CPU temp monitor and been using the device for a few hours. I've been messing with it a lot - unzipping large files, playing 3D games, XBMC stuff and more... The temperture is usually around 45-50 when idle and around 70 when working normally (watching a movie, playing a game, etc). When really overloading on the device the temperture went up to 80-85.
The device only hanged/crashed twice in all this time btw - I'm not sure if it's temperature related. I'll keep monitoring the temperture - hope I'll come to a conclusion tomorrow.

            Thanks again for your help
            Roy

I had a couple of more hangs today so I installed the official 104k4 rom again. I can tell that the CPU temperature now is 10 degrees lower on averge:
              Idle: 40, working: 65, working hard: 75.
With the custom 1.6 finless rom the temperature was:
              Idle: 50, working: 75, working hard: 85.
From this thread I suspect it might be something in the rom:

Installing the official 104k4 didn't fix my hangs though. It seems the device hangs randomly every 1-2 hours. I still suspect it has something to do with the USB wireless keyboard because when it's disconnected I didn't experience any hangs yet (could be a coincidence).

From reading a lot on this forum I suspect that this device just does that from time to time (hangs), at least with these new roms. Can I install an older ROM on a s89-H? Does finless 1.5 support this model? Because it seems it ran on lower temperatures.

I think you will get the same temperature problems... no idea what's wrong with your wireless, but if you read the 1.6 Finless thread you know that it uses the FW for none -h as basis and not the -h FW as basis... (and he will get a -h)

I have not had time to compare the -H and the none -H ROMs yet.
However what is interesting is Beelink released 104K4 and said it worked on both! Yet Geekbuying released two different ROMs from the same build. So this make me think there might be something different.
Since 105 is probably coming soon I probably wont mess with it until then.

I have used the stock 104k4 rom from geekbuying and Finless rom on my -H version, have not noticed any difference. I am now running Finless's rom.

Maybe tronsmart use different version for -h and non -h because Eric wrote something about problems with the first bulk of -h devices, why they have a delay of 1-2 days, because the factory has to fix it before sending it...

But I'm really irritated about the different degrees...
Is it maybe possible that they do something like no operation at x cycle at cpu?

If you like you can also check specific scores for some math operations (or all 6 CPU Tests) with 'PassMark PerformanceTest' at 'stock for -h' and finless/'stock for non -h' to compate it...

So I've been using the official 104k4 for several hours and had only one crash. Seemed random - it wasn't even when the machine was under stress or high temperature.

My question is - do you think I should return it to geekbuying? or is this normal and I just have to wait for a ROM update for further stabilization? I read on the forum that more people have heating problems or crashes from time to time so I guess it's normal and not specific to my device. Can anyone confirm? I'm willing to live with it if this is the case - My PC also requires a reboot at least once a day as well
