hmm so if i get it right...

        There 3 different CPUs:
        1) S802 no Dolby-Digital(AC3) or DTS hardware decoding
        2) S802-B (S802D) with Dolby-Digital(AC3) but not DTS hardware decoding
        3) S802-H (S802DD) with Dolby-Digital(AC3) and DTS hardware decoding

There might be also an SW update possible, but ATM not much into on that...

Anyway ive seen that you have Tronsmart
        S802-H and u ordered also Minix x8-H

So just curious, is it worthy to pay more for the same HW? or how happy are you with the device or there are any good custom FWs out?
Only reason why i want to switch for HW H version sound support, due to sound issues time to time during movies...

I have Minix x7 atm. Thanks

I'm nearly sure that hardware decode (downsize to stereo at a specialized CPU part) never will be enabled at s802 via software update...

I only ordered Tronsmart and MINIX to compare both devices and have a look at the myth MINIX because of maybe better HW and maybe better software support, because at the past at rk3188 I often read the recommendation to/for MINIX (but I enjoy my K-R42 rev. 1(also working linux(kernel)))..

            ah i see...

well i did the same with rk3188, first ive ordered RKM MK902 , but was sold out and delayed , so ive ordered also Minix x7 neo , i have both and basically when u find the good ROM that fits you , you have all the same anyway (except the extra CAM and MIC that RKM has).

So now i would go for cheaper version...as i wont use Minix original ROM , but the modded one anyay - so the SW can be basically equal between those two.

              I think so too...
First minix port is done by Finless and he will merge best of both together...

But at rk3188, maybe because of all the different pcb's and the problem with the T, most devs stops to support them but minix x7...
              So, we will see

(worst case in some weeks one of the both device will find a new owner via ****)...

so in the end i took both as well

260usd with shipping, even after research i came to the result that Tronsmart have many clone with different logos, but HW is the same ....but the price 99usd ive got for tronsmart was same as others had (diff. brands) for 16g version, but this guy had also Minix x8-h on stock so i took both. One one them goes to **** with Minix x7 + RKM MK902

                        heys killeriq,

                        indeed
im curious to hear what you think about both when you've had some time with them.. how would you compare? i also owned both boxes.

These are some things that i noticed more, and they kind of bothered me, but are not deal breakers.
when i order another (and maybe one for the folks), im trying to decide which one to get again because i had problems with my s89 reaching temps of 90+ deg c. but not everyone saw this.
yet my x8h runs a bit high but nothing like the s89 which spent most its time throttled to 800mhz
-i really like the look and build quality of the x8h and the tronsmart looks cheap to me and i dont like the roundness.

-the s89 got around 31000 antutu when it wasnt running hot.
                        -x8h gets around 22000 antutu

-xbmc is the same imo. save for better sound on x8h but no syncing problems for me

-loud pop through speakers when booting on x8h (annoying) but
                        nothing on s89
-neo m1 remote is a plus.
-better implemented sleep mode on x8h
these are things that are different to me that i can think of right now.

enjoy your boxes man!!! and thank these wonderful devs and contributors around here! i love Freaktab already. really cool and knowledgeable place

to be honest only difference ive realised and matters to me are:

750gb HDD external is working on s89 but not on x8h
                          s89 has only 2usb ports vs 3 on x8h

I just started s89 for 10mins and put it into box, post on **** to sell As u mention i also like more the minix style. But i guess the value is the same, hw too, just small differences. Actually i liked also the S89 remote more then minix, more buttons - but i havent tried it actually (will today )

I use RKM MK 702 II remote due to all those remotes are just useless as u need extra IR,Airmouse and keyboard, so its a bit pain to work that way.

Anyway i still got the X7, as main HTPC, X8H have update like every 2nd day, Beyond XMBC is not working on that yet...So im thinking i might sell X8h also and buy it later again in 2 months.
Because as it is now , both boxes are just like a toy to fix every day. During summer i dont have that much time to pay around with that, read the board all the time.

I thought that FW will be much better at least on X7 level

About the HDD, yeah seems like issue is only with that particular drive, strange that on Tronsmart is fine basically same FW/HW
