    Pipo X2 noob issues

Hi. I'm Tired8281, and I'm really new at this. I bought my first Android TV stick not too long ago, a Pipo X2 ( http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/04/...-sells-for-40/ ). I have been trying to install Kitkat (from http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...highlight=a928 ) but I'm having problems. I got the ROM I just linked to flash, but when it boots up, there is no wifi (says it's turning it on, but it never does), and my USB-Ethernet adapter doesn't work. I thought it might be the kernel, so I flashed a different one ("kernel_KK_v4.20_TVSTICK_AP6210_SD.img" from http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...All-(well-most!) ), which also booted, with working wifi, but this one had no NAND Flash or USB storage or SD Card. Other than the no networking, the first one seemed to have the features I want (It had settings for HDMI to control overscan, that the second one didn't have)...how can I get the networking support from one kernel and the rest from the other? Or is my noobness blinding me to the actual solution?

Thanks a lot for all your hard work, and your patience in dealing with noobs like me.

Here is the dmesg from the kernel that had everything working but no networking:

    Hope this helps

The link you gave was a firmware for a tronsmart device, not the PiPO X2. There is not a KitKat ROM for the X2.

If you are trying to port a kitkat rom from another device, you may want to try one from an MK802IV.

      This is why I say MK802IV: http://linux-rockchip.info/mw/index.php?title=PiPO_X2

Thanks for that link...that's the first bit of info I've found to give me something to go on!

I tried to install Finless ROM 2.0 beta (from http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...6210-wifi-BETA ), and it seems to have worked. I have wireless, and all the partitions are there. It crashes all the time, but I strongly suspect that is due to my using a 1A wall plug (I'm out of town, and I forgot my 2A plug at home). I liked the ROM that I previously posted (even though it was for Tronsmart, it seemed to be a bit more polished and up-to-date), so I'm gonna try to use this kernel with it, just to see if it works.

          Progress

Well, I wasn't too happy with the last attempt. It was slow and laggy, crashed frequently during heavy Wifi usage or multitasking, and videos played rather poorly. So, I took budgetgeek's advice and looked around in the MK802IV forum and found Neomode Custom ROM (from http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...4-4-2-*Update* ). Did it ever make a difference! Flashed easy, smooth as butter, using the tool provided with the ROM. I used the 4GB parameter file, and "kernel_t_cpu1608h_gpustock_ddr667.img" as the kernel. Boots up flawlessly, with none of the lag or delays I saw with the other ROM. I was able to queue up 35+ apps to install from Google Play (the other ROM crashed consistently if I queued up more than 4 at a time), and all of the apps I was interested in would install (something I was worried about...I had read that some ROMs did tweaks to the build.prop to allow more apps to install, but it doesn't seem that I need that). I was also able to install XBMC 13.1RC (vanilla, from their website), and standard definition and 720P videos played back perfectly. 1080P was a little stuttery, but that's not a dealbreaker for me and my 720P TV. All in all, I'm very happy with this device on this ROM, and I recommend anyone who wants Kitkat in their Pipo x2, give this a try (as long as you have a good backup or two...it worked amazingly for me, but it may not for you). Thanks to Neomode and everyone else here!

            Good info!

Glad to know. I am not interested in Kitkat but I was interested in finding out if the MK802IV rom would work on this device, I was just nervous about trying it myself. Glad someone else did and it worked!

              kernel?

Which ROM kernel did you use? MK802iv or MK802iii? Does Bluetooth work still?

Update: OC patched kernel is available, don't need this.

Hello my friends. I follow the instructions of Tired8281 and this rom is the best so far. I can play full hd videos, don't stutter, youtube, and this rom is very responsive. It is obvious also by moving the mouse. Thanks a lot Tired8281. I haven't tested bluetooth, but as i can see it searches for bluetooth devices. I was ready to send it back but i can see it is pretty powerful by using the correct software!

I´ve used for a few days this rom but for some reason the wifi became very slow.

do you have any idea why?

I liked that rom a lot, it was very responsive... but with poor wifi it becomes unusable for me....

                    Thanks

                      Flash Mode

I have been trying to fix my M9Pro and haven't had time to fidget with this, but I did a little yesterday.

How do you get it into flash mode? Does it do it automatically?

I think it isn't working right on my computer as part of the same problem I am having with my tablet, but if there is a button I need to press, I did press the button in the hole, it just reset everything...

Edit: Figured it out with instructions from mk802iii. Flashed the vsync kernels and now not getting very good performance in hulu plus...
