Buffering issues

Hi Folks, minix 8h out of box runs great in 720, looks great, really like it. However, when I run 1080 p movies from any addons I get serious buffering issues, is this normal and is there a way to resolve this. Secondly, as I have stated elsewhere I am a complete noob regarding android, so used to ATV2 that all of this is a massive learning curve so I am fearful at attempting just about anything for fear of turning my gizmo into a black plastic ashtray. If I upgrade to the finless rom, is this easy and are there any links on how to vids?
Do I have to delete xbmc and load an alternative xbmc? Any guidance here would be hugely appreciated. I am reading the forum but info overload and limited tech capacity
