    Onda's 4.0.4

Onda has a new update for their tablet. It is Android ICS 4.0.4 it works with the PMID701C, very well.
I have it installed right now.

The file is the last one on the list it is the V1_v1.4rc3 version it is not the V5_v1.4rc3 version.

I would imagine it would depend on which model of 701 that you have since some would use the V5, though to the best of my knowledge that would only apply to the 701i models, I think all of the C's were similar to the V1 Onda's.

I don't recall if we ever locked down which version was which (though I would not imagine any of the 701i's with an a13 would work with it, see the label on the back)

    Thanks for letting us know

Is this better than the stock ROM southern telecom offers on their website somehow?

Yes it is faster and newer. 701c needs the V1 and the 701i needs the V5

Well I can definitely say that after putting the new firmware on, there is a remarkable difference in performance. Netflix is even usable ha ha!

Where did you get the firmware from? The last couple of times I tried downloading from the Onda site link all I got was page not found errors.

                  It is right there

These are the links at the bottom of the page listed in the OP, you can give them a go. V1 would be what most users would need for their PMID701C or I, but there are some I versions that have an inverted screen (hopefully you know who you are by now) that would want to use the V5 instead. Again dont forget the usual that there is always the chance of trouble when flashing a different ROM, though minimized on these tablets due to the flashing routine built into the A10 processor chip that these tablets run on. Also if you have an I version do not forget that neither of these will work if the label on the back indicates it has a A13 processor (the conspicuous 13 in the label is a giveaway, as is the lack of a TV out port):

Ok. Worked out what the problem was. Seems that the nameserver I was using couldn't resolve the address being used here. Switched back to the primary one and was able to download the file. Weird.

So has anyone tried the V5 with the 701i 13?

EDITED... never mind... so the V5 will not work with 13...

I have my Polaroid 701i 13 running quite well after removing bloatware, and going to the APEX Launcher. Netflix runs fine and everything runs faster.

But I am always willing try a new ROM though.

It better have, otherwise I'm imagining things! (Kidding, I have a 703c and yes, it works-as long as you download the 'correct' version)

getting it all the way back to where it was could be difficult. I would recomend at least something like Titanium Backup (usefull even if it does work) and obviously copy the TB save files off first. I noticed another thread where a guy apparently had luck using adb backup, though for a different tablet :

If it does work great, if not just be sure to be ready to put the old ROM back on. I love the Allwinner FEL mode and LiveSuite combo for making these things virtually brick proof unless there is some kind of hardware damage to the device (broken USB port for instance). Apparently there is a way to use a different program called Phoenix to set up a uSD card to program them as well, though I have not tried it.
