    Minix X8-H - Playback Issues

    Hey all,

Recently joined up to seek some friendly information about my newly purchased Minix X8-H (stock rom) which has been giving me problems with media playback. I'm a complete newbie so please bare with me.

My resolution is set to 1080P (Auto) I'm using a Seagate 2TB 3.5" external HDD. Here is what I'm experiencing.

    * HD media sometimes runs slow, fast-forward & picture try's catching up to audio after pressing play.
    * 3D HD (SBS) media , same issue as above but XBMC's playback controls are off center & fuzzy.
    * 4K media plays for a few seconds & then freezes. I have to force close after that.

The HDD's file system is NTFS & allocation unit size is 4096 (was 64K but same problems).

All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OMG is that tv box having this issues too? I cant believe it, i have mk908 v3 since a year, and i still cant play 1080p videos without stuttering.

I am thinking to buy X8-H but if its having same issues i wont buy any android box again...

The FullScreen app doesn't fix the problem. Neither does that version of XBMC.

I will re-flash the X8-H tonight. Maybe a fault somewhere.

Can anyone else shed some light on the issue? I have since reinstalled stock rom & also finless, same issue.

It's becoming annoying now since I waited so long for this box to be released & it's not living up to my expectations. Minix have been notified of the problems & I am yet to hear back from them..

I've seen the harddrive issu where you ff and the video and audio don't sync back up right away. but it only takes a second to sync back up. At least that's how it is on my setup. As far as playback, I haven't seen any issues however, it could depend on which codecs were used to encode the movie. It could also depend on which player is being used. Lots of variables.
Ex: I have found that bsplayer seems to play .mkv better than mxplayer.

I have tried all players supplied with the X8-H from factory plus what you have mentioned.

I'm beginning to think it is a hardware fault. I will try the 002 Beta 2 firmware & report back.

Are you able to test with a smaller (or other) HDD (USB device)... (with same NTFS & allocation unit size)?

Yes. I have a Toshiba 2.5" 520GB external HDD. Will test it with that tonight.

I found when I use 64K allocation unit size on the X8-H, some of the files don't show..

What a shame.... i have HiMedia 600B device, it runs 500Mhz CPU and 256MB RAM - PLAYS EVERYTHING.

I think Android is to blame here... because hardware is WAY TOO MUCH then it's needed for such low res (2megapixes) video decoding.

Also i said previuos- all reviews was done by MINIX sponsored people, and only now when people got players we will see how bad or good it really is.

Its STUPID if you cant use 64K allocation because all new drives uses it.

I have used media players before such as the HiMedia 600B & they work well but the reason why I wanted the Minix X8-H was because of XBMC otherwise I would have stuck to my old Noontec if that were the case.

I've since tried a different hdd, same problem. I installed the 002 Beta 2 firmware as suggested by John Scutt from Minix Support via email, same problem. Yes it is silly that 64K allocation can't be used as it's the best one for large media files..

Can anyone else report 4K media playback issues or am I the only one who got a lemon instead of a Minix X8-H?

Me to wanting some new player just because of XBMC where i can see my collection, IMDB rantings and IPTV. But i love that HiMedia have builtin HDD enclosure..that supports both 2,5" and 3,5" hdds. I wish there would be some device with Linux XBMC and hdd enclosure

I don't think Android is the problem because for instance with time4popcorn android app I have problem playing some HD videos that are smaller than 4gb on the x8, but those videos are played well on my Galaxy Note 2. So its clearly a software problem, but not because of android but because the s802 soc or the current x8 rom.

However I got your point about some much older HDD media players because I also have some OEM players without problems streaming HD content.

I have some 8 gig hd files that I encoded myself and they work just fine. That's the reason I say it could be the codecs used. I'm no expert at troubleshooting these boxes but I think the best test would be to have a different vendor with the same chipset and throw everything you can at them with side by side tests.
