Differences between ROMs - Alternatives to Android for the Minix NEO X7

Not everyone of us is happy with the pre-installed or original firmware. This is due to the fact that different apps do not work because they require root privileges and secondly to the fact that one wants to store its data independently of Google.

Here in the forum there are plenty of "freaks" who build from the original firmware so-called custom ROMs.

My questions goes on the creators and on the users of a Minix NEO X7:

Which ROM have you installed on the Minix NEO X7?

Interesting for all Minix owner: Why; ie what benefits you see it?

If you've tested other ROMs at the last time: What do you think is the most stable?

If you've tested other operating systems on this device: Which works tested without any doubt and real?

You ask questions like a seller of the x7?
Most users on FT try what's available and make the ROM choice on their requirements.
I suggest u do the same.

fyi any decent 4.2.2 JB is my choice. Right now Finless 1.9.
    Minix Neo X7 - Wasser 1.0.4 OC'd - Kodi-helix with passthrough
    Beelink M8B - Wasser 1.0.3 - Kodi-helix alpha 2 + SPMC

I'm pretty new to Android TVs, and a little less new to XBMC.
As I'm not really experienced, I wouldn't even know what differences to look for between the different Roms available at the moment. You could argue that, in that case, it doesn't matter which one I should install, but I'd like to make an informed decision.
In my case, I'd like to know the differences between Quickshot 3.1 and Wasser's 1.03 firmware. I'd especially like to know this in relation to their abilities to run XBMC, but also in general too.

            +1

I am currently on the 1080p Version of official FW10 and all seems fine but I'd like to understand what the different custom ROM's particularly Quickshot, Finless and Wasser bring to the table. What do they do that the official FW doesn't? Which ROM's are more stable etc? For me a big issue would be which one has the best WiFi performance as I rely on a strong WiFi connection for streaming online content.

That's a smart ass answer Ant. Why not share the knowledge? Is that not why forums exist and why people do reviews? When you are choosing your next Android box will you not seek out user feedback and reviews before deciding what product to get?

Then everyone would use the same rom... its all about what people want in a rom wich makes a rom good for that person.
                Its different for everyone.
The knowledge is shared, just take time to read the topics

True, but for the uninitiated, it would be useful to get a general idea of how one Rom's features compare to another and also identify features that I didn't . For example, I'd like a stable Kitkat 1080p ROM which runs XBMC 13.1. if there were 2-3 roms that offered those features, I'd like to be able to easily compare which other features differentiate one rom from another.

On the first post of each custom firmware list all the features. I am not trying to offend but you just need to do the work to find the differences. Also virusX posted a google doc spreadsheet listing all roms. It is updatable by users on features, pros and cons.

That post should be stickied again!

a lot of users fancy Air Mouse configuration, where as i use it as a Desktop Replacement Tool, with a proper keyboard and recently a mouse as well.

Ask yourself what you want it to use for and i'll be glad to help you.

The thing is, some people have better experience in JB compared to KK, my X7 came to life when i installed Wassers KK, but i wont ignore the fact that there are a lot of happy users for HWG, Quickshot and Finless roms, but what i know for sure though, STOCK ROM is very laggy in all my experiences, and these guys above that made the roms thought the same.

And yea, understand the people when they tell you to Trial and Error, it's worth it.

Of course not, that's a pretty dumb thing to say. People have different requirements which is exactly why people want to know how the various ROM's compare to one another so we can decide in an informed manner which of thr available ROM's best matches our requirements.

If everyone wanted exactly the same things from a ROM then and only then would it be possible for a single ROM to dominate.

                        Now, back on topic.

Are there any comparisons or the various ROMs or summaries of their respective feature sets other than looking at the detailed specifications of each individual ROM?

Seriously bro don't waste your time with BenEadir. His attitude stinks....
He spends 7 hours today moaning and takes no advice on board. It takes 10 minutes to swap ROMS with a basic backup of apps and data via Titanium you can be up and running in within half hour. This means he could have tested all the ROMS for a hour and shared his info with us.

Ben just for future reference you won't get help using personal insults like "smart ass" and "dumb thing to say".
I'm definitely not going to lead you into an argument you won't win so enough said.

Finally, sorry Robert for messing up you thread. I take the time to read your blog and you put in great effort for no reward.
