    Pipo M8HD RileyROM 1.8 KitKat

    This ROM is based on a third party ROM developed by Chinese developer Edge Xuan. I want to thank him for his excellent work in going through this firmware and doing his magic. Clearly, he has a lot more time to work on details...since he has done some UI improvements I only do for tablets I own. The reason I decided to work with his ROM is 1. because we don't have this latest firmware version available, yet, and 2. because I thought I could add a few things to it to make it better. My goal is to always provide users with the newest available firmware as soon as possible...it isn't about me...it's about you guys.

    This ROM is based on Pipo firmware dated 6/6/14. When the stock version is available to me, I will update this ROM and base it on the stock firmware. In the meantime, you can play around with this ROM.

    Again, most of the work was done by Edge Xuan. Here is what he's posted on the Pipo Forum:

    1: Modify the boot first.

    12: Replace background image (to force 1,10 O (∩ _ ∩) O) 
    13: perfect support for a variety of large and small game
    I'm not sure what all of that's about, but there you have it.

    What I did was put it in my standard ROM Kit package and:

    Root with SuperSU
    No debloat necessary
    Added init.d support with busybox commands (most of them were already there)
    1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 or 12gb user app space (You are in Command of what size you want the partition to be)
    English default
    Google Play Store fixes added
    TWRP recovery installed after first boot, by Abdul_pt
    Auto Install feature added, to automatically load apk's from your "autoinstall" external SD folder
    Reboot app by Petrus
    New boot animation by me
    First Time User's Guide for installation instructions

    The ROM kit also includes the RKBatchTool as an alternative to getting into flash mode. And the newest Flash Tool which you can use to dump an already existing ROM or back up your user partition. Just look at the sub folders in the kit.

    IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE FLASHING A KITKAT ROM ON YOUR M8HD...READ THIS THREAD!!!!!!!

    Make sure you leave the loader.bin checked when flashing...especially if you are upgrading from a Jellybean ROM.

    Edit: This is now 1.8.2...adding many missing apps...like the keyboard.

      for testing only, I have flashing without erasing NAND.

      I have just checked, parameter, system, boot and kernel.

      And it has booted and working for the moment.

      Just check , miracast is working, camera with others apps working too.

        OK, the email and exchange can be fixed easily by adding the KK version. The last batch of Pipo firmware have the wrong apk's for that.

        Let me see what I can come up with.

          I'm just running a ROM update with fixes to Exchange/Gmail. It's the easiest way I can think of.

            I've changed the link in post #1 to v1.8.1, which fixes the Exchange and Gmail problem.

            If you don't want to go through the hassle of flashing the whole ROM again, just download this zip file and install it with TWRP. It will provide the same fix.

              I've always wondered is it possible to remove the onscreen volume buttons and make the hard key volume buttons work as they are intended to?

                That involves rewriting code in the SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk files. It could be done, but I can't remember the actual lines that need to be changed. Not everyone likes that mod.

                One thing you can try is to run Xposed Framework and see if there is a module in their repository that will provide that change.

                  Hello!


                  Do some of you guys have problems with the virtual keyboard and the "back" arrow (the one in the lower left corner).


                  My device has difficulties to show me the virtual keyboard when I have to type some text into an input field. And the "back" arrow does not work at all.


                  Problem solved:

                  Problem: There were no IME's installed for some reason
                  W/InputMethodManagerService( 515): Default IME is uninstalled. Choose new default IME.

                  Solution:
                  I solved the problem by installing the default Google-Keyboard from the Play Store.


                  While I was solving the Keyboard problem I encountered an other "bug".

                  When I try to open the "Downloads" app/process the process crashes with the following message:
                  "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped".

                    You can search in build.prop the line "ro.rk.systembar.voiceicon" and set to false.

                    For the volume rocker you can try press and hold or use the attached file, rename it to rk29-keypad.kl and replace in /system/usr/keylayout.

                    You can also install xposed, install Advanced Power Menu to add screenshot button, and remove it from navbar.

                      Yes, with M8HD, if you press and hold menu button you get : vol -, vol+ with esc button

                        Screen touch latency and fps

                        I've just installed this ROM and there is a problem of big latency of touching the screen. And fps in different apps is not very good (its about two times less then in JellyBean ROM). Is that normal? or its just only I have this problem?
