MK809IV (Red slider version) ROM availability

I recently purchased one of these sticks to replace my tired/frankenstein MK808...

It would seem that there are many clones of the MK809iv in many different cases, not wanting to break things from the onset I figured I'd come back to my favourite place to get some advice on a new ROM as the stock Jelly Bean ROM seems to be struggling somewhat.

Can anyone advise me as to ROMs that they have tried on one of these sticks and what performance they obtained from XBMC (preferably the v13 Gotham release)?

I ran finless Bob's ROMs on my mk808 which were stunning, this one seems to be struggling with wifi data throughput and the media buttons on my airmouse however.

    Thanks in advance.

So many views, so few suggestions. Does anybody know how I can discover the hardware used on this model in order to have a bash at creating a ROM?

I'm keen to get started, just need a couple of pointers to get me up and running/coding...

      Hi,
I've got this MK809 IV too...
I had some wifi issues so, I tried some custom roms I found here an there... with good or bad results...
Honnestly, till now, I've found only 2 roms that fit this model.
If you want, I'll send you those one and you'll try them.
But can I ask you if you could back up the stock 4.2.2 rom of your MK809 IV and send it to me because I did not back it up before testing other rom and I'd like to install it again on my mini pc to compare compatibility between stock/custom roms and some apps. Thanks

I shall certainly send you a copy of my original firmware as soon as I get the chance to back it up, I'm pretty serious about attempting the development of a working ROM for this stick as they seem to be gaining in popularity and I'd like a working ROM to enjoy XBMC in my bedroom. The missing packets are an annoyance for me, 802.11n wifi running at -48dBm should give pretty good results and it isn't...

                Hi there
I also have a 'red slider' - there seem to be a lot of varieties of these things about but FWIW have popped the cover on mine and the chips are:
CPU - RK3188 (not T) according to Antutu
                Wifi - ESP8089
                Bluetooth - Mediatek MT6622N
                HDMI ITE IT66121FN

                Android About
                Model number rk31sdk

                Android version 4.2.2

                Build number rk31sdk-user 4.2.2 JDQ39 user.arron.20140509.151002 test-keys

                Vendor s/w version RK3188_R-BOX_ANDROID4.2.2-SDK_V1.0.0_130514

Now, much as I would love to help with stock images I have one very odd problem with mine - for love nor money cannot get it into flash mode nor recognised by my PC (which runs Linux, lsusb never changes)!
Have enabled Developer mode, enabled USB debugging, tried cables from both the microUSB ports as well as even the normal size one. The stick will take power and boot happily with only USB power from my PC. Have tried with and without USB/Connect to PC option selected, with and without keyboard plugged in, with and without stick plugged into HDMI!!

Even trying to get flash mode - if I hold the buttom and insert a USB cable (into any of the 3) the Android 'robot' comes up and basically the thing does a factory install (i.e. no recovery menu or options)!

Any help how to get my stick in a mood so my PC can talk to it welcomed!

Worked out my problem is a failure to enumerate the stick - /var/log/messages has

                  Code:
usb 4-2: new low-speed USB device number 15 using ohci-pci

                   usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -62

                   usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -62

usb 4-2: new low-speed USB device number 16 using ohci-pci

                   usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -62

                   usb 4-2: device descriptor read/64, error -62

usb 4-2: new low-speed USB device number 17 using ohci-pci

usb 4-2: device not accepting address 17, error -62

usb 4-2: new low-speed USB device number 18 using ohci-pci

usb 4-2: device not accepting address 18, error -62

hub 4-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2
I have the same problem using 3 different cables (all of which work fine for my LG and Samsung phones), 4 different USB ports on PC, 3 different power supplies for stick.

Somewhere I read a post by someone who forced the device code via /etc/modprobe.d/70-something.conf (IIRC) - must try find that post again. If anyone can let me know what Manufacturer/ID they get from their stick could be useful.

Have same problem - can't connect via usb holding reset - device not recognized so driver not installed.

Does anybody have installed custom recovery on this device?
