X8-H screen goes black for a sec and return

    Hello,

I am quite disappointed with my X8-H. I get this strange behavior:

My screen sometimes goes black for about a second and returns.

I tried changing the settings from 1080P 60Hz to 50Hz but this still happening.
Maybe it gets HOT - i don't know but this is very annoying.

    Has anyone experienced it too?

    regards,
    Id

Try with a different HDMI cable

Mine does this too. It happens only after quite some time of use. Than, I have those screen blackouts (sometimes followed by some short display corruption) of 3-5 seconds every few minutes.
Very annoying Also thought it might be a thermal problem. On the other hand, after a reboot it is instantly ok again, so I think this is an indication against thermal problems.

Any other tips besides changing the cable (which I am quite sure is not the problem here)?

It doesn't sound like my "black screen" issue (MALI ERR) http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...-Test-Scenario but they do some patches at >= beta6 so maybe you would like to try beta6?

I can make it happen at any time just by gently touching the HD cable at the minix end - So it might be cable related. There is no problem on the TV's end.

It also may be a coincidence.

A friend's X8-H had this problem, despite trying different cables, different screens and 4 different ROM versions. The screen would briefly go black at random times. Yesterday I loaded Finless's "Stock Beta9-002" and haven't had a single case despite running a number of tests all day.

I have the same problem using Finless B9-002 using when using the X8-H that I received from Newegg about a week ago. Changing resolution doesn't help. I'm using the same HDMI cable that worked 100% fine with Apple TV 2 and Fire TV.

Any suggestions / fixes would be very appreciated! Thanks.

That's worrying. Are you playing media via ethernet, wifi or USB disk?

I use Ethernet to connect to the server. However, it happens most frequently when I'm not playing media. For example, last night it was blinking a bunch when I was trying to browse the Google Play Store.

                  Maybe I should exchange it?

Afraid I agree. The one which I'd thought was fixed, started doing this again last night, much to my disappointment

Maybe the same specialists, who "soldered/glued" the HDMI port for Tronsmart + Co. before, are now working for Minix....
But seriously, has one of you guys made tests via "Video out"?
                      Do these dropouts occur also?

Btw: these permanent HDMI problems with all this Amlogic cr*p, annoys the hell out of me.
Technically decent devices, but poor build quality (some even more than others....).

I have not tried that, as this is not the intended setup. I will try it out though, purely as a test.

When referring to Tronsmart, did their devices have issues with poor HDMI connections???

Thanks, I had an entertaining time reading through posts regarding HDMI issues on Tronsmart devices. Either way though, I'm not willing to open the Minix box to try and fix the soldering. The device will be returned to GB, either for a refund or a replacement.

                              Problem solved!

                              Update (for anyone who's interested)

Before setting up the RMA, I did some additional testing to make sure that the problem wasn't somewhere else in the chain. Turns out that the problem is my Denon AV Receiver. For whatever reason, when I route the HDMI through the Denon, I get the screen blanking issue. When I power the Denon off and let the signal pass through (which it does when powered off), the problem goes away. When I route the HDMI straight to the TV, there's also no problem.

Thanks to everyone for their help & suggestions.
