Is it possible to reasign the fast forward button to pause/play

Silly that a remote doesn't have a play or pause button.
Saw a post about some file that can be modified to resign buttons on any ir remote control. Can it be done on a stock remote?

I dont think it can be done to the stock remote it can be done only if you have a remote control that you can copy the original remote and then reasign the buttons wherever you want you will be need something like this
