I also had reboots. I am on beta 7.
Both scrolling fast in the add on list from XBMC.

For the rest I am happy. Coming from X7.
Finally good quality dolby surround. Without software fixes.
    No 10min bug freeze.
    Crispier image quality.

        Thanks... Downloading from your mirror...
I am on stock Minix so not Finless tweak Rom.
        No problem?
And which Kernel should I try?

          stock Minix beta007 ?

if yes, I flashed the stock values one, you don't really need the different cpu frequency values, just the kernel that is in each of them.

by the way, the fixer should not come from the tweaker download, it should come from the Finless 1.0 ROM download....

I still have my MINIX x8h. I had thought of selling it due to a different reason of it not playing my mkv files correctly, but I ended up ripping them to m2ts format instead. I don't care for the MINIX representatives attitude.

I haven't noticed any reboots so far but I haven't customized it much yet. I am using the Finless 1.0 firmware and his XBMC. Its taken me a long time to figure out how xbmc works... Its not user friendly to me but I am learning.

I am happy with the box despite the problem I had.

I just bought an X8-H on the recommendations of a coworker and I haven't had any reboots yet. I've watched one full movie so far and a few 30 minute TV show episodes. XBMC's queued up a large quantity of content and that seems to be working well so far.

To be honest, so far I'm not hugely surprised by the quality. One of the biggest complaints I have of the Android market in general is the utterly lack of control with regards to software QC. I know some people love Android purely because they can hack away at it, change ROM's, firmware, launchers, etc; but for a consumer device; especially for something that your non-techie family members will use; I don't think that's the right place for Android.

The reason Samsung, Google, and HTC's phones work is because they have massive companies behind them; who put massive hours into developing and testing their software. Someone made the comparison that "you wouldn't be happy if your new Galaxy S5 phone arrived and couldn't make phone calls"; I don't think that's valid. You're pitting a device backed by a monolithic global corporation making a play into the mobile phone space; vs a small company out China trying to make the next best Android based PC.

Minix is happy to give you beta software to use and test at your leisure, would Samsung do that? Hell no. Further, look at Kit Kat, compare the initial release of 4.4 against the time it finally came to Galaxy series phones. It wasn't Day 1 now was it? There's a reason for that.

The android community for these types of devices I think inherently needs to be slightly technical, willing to explore forums and look for tweaks and improvements.

I'd never, ever, recommend an Android PC/HTPC/Box to a non-technical relative. They can switch with an Apple TV, Roku 3, etc. This platform just isn't there yet...

The moment you have to do *anything* beyond plugging it in, and telling it to go to Netflix, or to read files off an external HDD, you're outside of consumer territory.

I bought my X8-H on a whim this week when I already have a working Boxee Box. While the latter is slow, and most definitely not supported anymore because the company doesn't even exist; it definitely feels like a more seasoned development team was behind it. I never had to tweak settings or anything for it to work. Just point at my SMB/CIFS shares, and away it went.

Having spent two nights with the X8-H, would I return it? I think I might, but unfortunately I bought it on sale, only exchangeable for the same item, etc. My girlfriend doesn't know I bought it yet and will probably roll her eyes at me for spending the money; but that's my battle

I'm sorry for all of you that are experiencing random reboots, I'm (so far) not seeing that behaviour on whatever firmware I'm running. But I am indeed having to tweak the interface to do what I'd like; overscan from some (but not all) apps [like HD Widgets]) is my biggest issue so far.

              Time well tell.

I hope this offered some level headed perspective (and better formed sentences) for those lurking for reviews and opinions before purchasing.

              Thanks;

              - D

Wow a little long winded eh?

1st off most people didn't buy this cause they really wanted an android device. The x8 is one of the better devices out right now to run xbmc pretty well and will only get better.

2nd Xbmc is not a perfect product anyways. If your going to analyze it that much you are probably one of the types that are pissed off cause of the lack of quality in streams.

Appreciate this for what it is. Free but not perfect TV.

.... Also minix isn't a big company so they release betas for so. E minix owners to help make the product better. They don't have the budget big companies have to pay testers to pre test betas

Anyone bitching and saying they are going to sell there's half off just to get rid of it then let me know. I will buy them up lol.

The X8-H is running great now and better than 95% of the boxes new out of box.

This by far is a perfect platform and also Minix isn't samsung where they can test for a year or more before putting on the market.
