X8-H showing as x8 under settings.

Friend of mine just bought a Minix Neo X8-H and I helped him install Xbmc and update the firmware to the latest beta 7, everything seems to be working ok, except that the volume is always on high, the clicking noises made when you move around under apps on the main screen are at full volume and turning down the volume doesn't affect anything. However, under Xbmc the volume is adjustable and is able to be turned down. Anyone else having this issue?

The other issue is that the model number under settings is showing x8 instead of X8-H, is this normal? Shouldn't it be showing X8-H?

One more issue, the status bar at the bottom of the screen is gone after the update to beta 7, and unhiding it brings it to the top and without any of the usual options like recent programs, home screen button etc., Is there a way to get the normal status bar back?

Go into system settings>>sound>> volumes here you can change system sound, notifications, etc. And turn off click sounds if you need to.
I'm talking about the android settings and not the mbox settings but you could get to them from mbox settings... On the last page of inbox settings, hit button called 'more settings'.

As for build number/name, I'm not home but I can check what mine says later on tonight.

Swipe up from the bottom of your screen and it will reveal the 'navbar' and it will stay until you hit the arrows pointing down option on the navbar. The bar at top is called the status bar and that, if you swipe down on the left side you'll get the 'notification panel'. If you swipe down on the right side, you'll get 'quick settings' toggles.

If you used Bob's Finless ROM or tweaker, you will see it as X8 and not X8-H.

Correct. To unlock device spoofing I have to mod it so it shows as a X8 not a X8-H.
I have found no issue with anything having it that way!

Minix decided to code the init binary to look at hardware and decide to show a X8 or X8-H and I am not 100% sure why they chose to do this as it doesn't seem to effect anything including their own XBMC.

If someone finds an issue with it doing that I can give a ZIP for my ROMs so that works again but you will never be able to spoof another device with that. Again I will do it if it does show some problem somewhere but to date, no one has had an issue.

Yes, same here, just making sure it's the right box, and I did use Bob's cpu tweaker, so that explains it, but it's all good now, thanks for the quick replies guys.

Now what about the sound issue, it can't be turned down? And the status bar, how can I get the normal status bar back at the bottom of the screen?

Also, one more question, when I stream some 1080p videos from Xbmc, the video is smooth but, it shows that it's skipping quiet a few frames when you press the O button.

On these boxes, which hardware decoding should be enabled under xbmc? Or should all 3 be enabled, I know if I enable just the libstagefright, the box quick reboots, when starting some videos, at the moment I have all three enabled.

Another thing, I'm also thinking of getting a S802 based android box, what do you guys recommend? My friend paid U.S. 150 bucks for his, he could of gotten a S82B round box with same specs for 50 bucks less, but he went with Minix because of the brand name, but, from some of the stuff I'm reading here, it almost seems like the round S82B boxes have better firmware supports and most of the bugs ironed out.

Please guys, recommend me a S802 box, I probably won't be getting the Minix, it's 50 bucks more than the others with the same specs, which one should I pick between the round ones and the square M8 ones?

Is it even worth getting the B version? I don't have a separate stereo system, sound is through TV only, should I save a few bucks and just go with the 2/8Gb version without the hardware decoding for Dolby and DTS. Can anyone recommend a good Aliexpress seller with good rep, that sells good quality stuff. Thanks.

Yes, I've turned the sounds off for now from the main settings, it would be nice in the next release if you could leave them on and turn the volume down. I didn't try swiping at the bottom to get the navbar, that's what I was after, will give it a go now.

So, I guess the skipping frames doesn't matter as long as the video is nice and smooth, I'll leave oll of the three options for hardware decoding under acceleration on. Thanks guys.

Now, please also recommend a good non minix s802 box with the best firmware support for me, and most bugs etc., ironed out. thankyou

Edit: Ok got the navbar to come up as well, very impressed by the smooth playback of high bitrate video on this box.

In my eyes you can save the 50 and take a round one (oman do a really good job (also wasser, leolas and stane))... order it at geekbuying and you also get a good support....

Thanks, i just ordered one from Aliexpress for 100 u.s.d. and free shipping, has the same specs as the x8-h, 2gbram 16gb storage, dual band wifi, has the hardware decoding B chip. I couldn't find the same thing at any lower price.
