    HKC S86 Firmware (4.1.1) + Root

Hello all, just wanted to share stock rom for HKC S86 tablet.
When I wanted to unbrick this tablet I had spent a lot of time until I found working firmware at chinese website. Now I'm sharing it to save trouble for anyone else who needs to unbrick this tablet. There are 3 revisions of this tablet and 3 different firmwares for each of revision so try them until it works.

    Method 1 (recovery mode)

    1. You need to extract HKC_S86_android 4.1.1.zip and put update.zip to your sd card.

    2. Now enter recovery (To enter recovery press power button and volume-).

    3. Select "apply update from EXT" and flash update.zip.

    4. (Optional) After flashing is done select "wipe data/factory reset".

    Method 2 (flashing from pc)

You can flash it with AML USB Burning Tool

    1. Plug your tablet into your computer using a USB cable and go to your Device Manager. You should see your device listed as "M3 Chip" or "M6 Chip."
If you do not see your device listed it may be off. Enter bootloader mode (press power button and volume+).

    2. Right click on your device, go to "Properties --> Driver --> Update Driver" then "Browse computer for driver software" and locate the folder with the "Windows 7 - World Cup Drivers" in it. Your device should now show the World Cup Drivers instead of showing up as an M3/M6 chip.

    3. Right click on "ImageBurnTool.exe" in the AML Image Burn Tool folder and "Run as Administrator." Click on "Configure --> Import upgrade file" in the menu. Select HKC_S86_android 4.1.1.zip.

    4. Press start.

    How to root:

    Source

    1. Download utoo-root-signed.zip from XDA Forums or from here

    2. Put the zip file on the root of your SD card

    3. Reboot to recovery (with the device off, press the Vol - and Power button together until it enters recovery)

    4. Select (using Vol keys) "apply update from EXT"

    5. Select the file and run it pressing the Power button

    6. Reboot your device

    Downloads:

    S86

    Thanks dude!

I was also looking for ways to root this tablet... but unable to find anything.
I've recently got a problem where the TABLET was popping up error about unable to connect to google services....I had to reset back to factory default...
Took me a while to figure out how to change the language to english... but now in factory default state, It cannot connect to wifi.. it says "turning Wi-Fi on..." indefinitely

So now I'll try to flash this rooted ROM... currently downloading the USB flasher tool and the ROM.

Did you use the same technique to flash yours, were you successful? Just trying to figure out if this is untested waters...

    Thanks

To flash this firmware, I followed this guide (this guide is meant for devices with the same chipset) http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/4147...es-tablet-v20/:
      * Scroll down and find "Method Two - AML Flash and SD card for a "hard" brick".
      * At step 1 to enter bootloader mode press power button and volume+.
      * At step 2 you need to select HKC_S86_android 4.1.1(最新root版).zip.
      * At step 3 flash without erasing nand.
      * Also skip this part "DO NOT TRY TO BOOT UP THE TABLET YET!"

You can also flash this rom in recovery mode but tablet wont get rooted then:
      1. You need to extract HKC_S86_android 4.1.1(最新root版).zip and put update.zip to your sd card.
      2. Now enter recovery (To enter recovery press power button and volume-) and flash update.zip

I managed to successfully flash the firmware by following that guide and later by using recovery but something was wrong with my tablet because everytime after first boot it lagged and froze and after restart it didn't boot anymore. I guess something is wrong with its nand cause that would explain why it stopped booting in the first place.

Also I suggest to make a backup before trying to flash this one. Hope this helps, good luck.

        Im a bit confused now..
        1. The method that will work is the 1st one "Method Two - AML Flash and SD card for a "hard" brick".. however, you are describing a modified way ( in your 4 step approach ). So by following a hybrid walk through 1 -4 (yours and Method Two) it will root the tablet in the end?
        2. You mentioned the Recovery Method - which in the end will not work since you found out that the recovery method , although you were able to flash the firmware, it didnt boot anymore after the 1st boot? So I should avoid the recovery Method... correct?

How would I back up if I do not have root? May be a noob question but i thought you must have access to bootloader/root or something along this line before i can back up?

I think im gonna leave it with the stock rom for now until someone test it out and confirms the correct way :P

I googled but found only Chinese Discussions on how to root it... at least thats what it seems like using google translate :P

My tablet behaved the same after using each method. I think its not this firmware's fault but my tablet's because it had stopped booting with original stock rom, even before flashing this firmware. And as I said before, problem returned after trying to boot second time.

About recovery method, I only wrote that as alternative way of flashing firmware if you didn't want to go with the first method and wanted only to fix wifi and stay unrooted.

For backup you can try this http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...LASHABLE-IMAGE and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1578099 or search using google for more guides.

And yes, you should try that hybrid walk to get rooted.
