    mk809II

Hi. Iv just taken delivery of an mk809 2.

First impressions are that it seems quite good. Its a lot faster than my old 802. It seems to cope well with most of what Iv asked of it so far.

However Iv noticed that video playback seems ever so slightly choppy. Iv tried downloading vlc and playing with the settings but I cant seem to smooth it out. Its the same with the standard video player which it came with. Its not obvious, its just not quite right and it will annoy me. Iv tried various formats played from usb flash device. Its just not quite smooth enough.

Secondly, the quality on BBC iplayer is dreadful and I cant seem to find a way to increase it.

Lastly (for now) I cant get the 4od app to work. This seems to be a well documented problem and crops up a lot on forums. However I cant find any solutions to the problem.
The app installed fine and I can navigate the videos but when I try to play one it says I need to reset my device. This doesn't solve the problem though.

Thank for reading. Hope someone can offer some advice :-)

Nobody? Id really appreciate a bit of advice, esp about the choppy video playback. If this cant be remedied Il probably return the device to the seller for a refund.
Id rather get it running smoothly though as it seems to have a lot of potential.

    Thanks

        Im still struggling with this.

I have android version 4.2.2 installed. When I boot up it displays the Google TV logo etc.

Would this benefit from a custom rom? Would that fix the juddery video problem?

Does ubuntu run well on it?

First confirm your wireless chipset and if it's MTK try the 4.4.2 ROM here:

Users with MK809ii have said it runs well.

To confirm your wifi chipset without opening the device run a terminal emulator app and type the following commands and look for a response with current wifi driver:

          su
          dmesg | grep WiFi

            The 4.4.2 ROM works well.

            Also worth trying SPMC.

Iplayer looks bad because the stream is only SD and only the HD channels look reasonable.

Haven't used 4oD for a while but that was because it was designed not to work on rooted devices.

1080p video is always going to have a micro stutter but 720p works fine and if you are currently using the stock ROM then none of them have actually lived up to their billing out of the box.

As a standalone player, MX Player is the best one to use.

Thanks for the help. Il look at the wifi tonight. With regards to Iplayer and Youtube, the problem is that I dont see any option to change to HD. When I access on my Win pc or even my satellite box which has built in Iplayer, I am able to choose either SD or HD. When using the youtube/iplayer app on the mk809 or acessing though the browser, I am unable to select HD. I cant find anywhere to click to get this.

With regards to the 1080p stuttering, Im not sure if the video I tested was 1080p 720p so Il look into this.

Il try and load another rom and see if this improves any of the issues Iv experienced.

              Cheers.
