Need advice on buying a stick

My goal is to get a 20+" touchscreen monitor to run Android so I can play games with the family. I have been researching this for a while and I believe there isn't a lot of working combinations right now. So I am just going to do it step by step. Walk, then run.

I would like to buy a stick first. I have some **** and Amazon GC to burn. So I would like to buy from these places. I have been looking at RK3066 and RK3188 sticks and I am really confused at all the options. My goal is to get one such that I can install Amazon Appstore and try out some games using mouse, for now.

I don't have a lot of money to spend. 1080p would be nice but more importantly is that it is supported by the community so I can use custom roms and ask questions, etc. There seems to be a lot of versions. And I see a lot of people having trouble with custom ROM compatibility. Can someone tell me which one I should buy and why?

Have you considered this NVIDIA Tegra 4 all-in-one option?

Have you considered this NVIDIA Tegra 4 all-in-one option? Might be a much faster, better integrated system for about the same price range as touch monitor + Android appliance. [p.s. I don't typically like HP products, but gotta say, this is an exception ...]

Buying pre-built Android AIO is certainly an option but at twice the price and lack of expandability.

I've also looked at Acer's DA220HQL which can be found for $200 on **** but App compatibility is poor and very high failure rate for touchscreen.

Besides, the fun factor and bragging right are missing.

I think I'm going to go for the RK3188 sticks for faster performance. But it seems there is not as good community support as the MK808B.

I hear ya'! I plan to get a RK3188 for myself. Rikomagic appears to be a solid (and popular) brand.

Suggestion: avoid the clones (cheap imitations) which can be more difficult to upgrade.

Best wishes on your Android adventure.

p.s. I'm curious to know how successfully the touchscreen monitor interfacing goes.

Actually the thread is a bit dated and the only reported successes were for 2-point multi-touch monitors. The majority touch monitors out there are 10-point multi-touch monitors that works natively on Windows 8.

This post by Arro looks most promising so far:

              Hello mongkok,

I've had success using a Dell P2714T connected Tronsmart Vega S89. This combo gets you 10-point multi-touch out of the box.

I've also tested this display with Minix Neo X7 and Minix Neo X8 but the former only detected 5 fingers as a single touch and the latter didn't detect anything (which is kind of strange because X8 has the same hardware as the Tronsmart box - probably just missing the required kernel modules).

              I hope this helps.

              Regards,
              Balint
