If you are going to install it with stock recovery, you will need the .img version instead of the .zip version.

    Am I doing this right?

If you are trying to install one of the parameter size patches, it needs to be be installed using TWRP.

Flashify may or may not work... (I haven't tried to use Flashify), but you definitely need to install TWRP recovery first.

TWRP recovery can be installed using stock recovery. (Again, I don't know if Flashify will work).

The kitkat update for the nextbook 8 (NX785QC8G) is no longer available from the nextbook website.

Now they are only offering an update for the nextbook 7 (NX007QC16G) and one for the nextbook 8 with windows 8 (NX785QC16G) which appears to contain a kitkat update for a NX785QC8G with a MediaTek board (which does not currently exist) instead of a RockChip board...

Regarding the update on Nextbook site.

I thought this was the update for kitkat as stated on the product page for the Nextbook 8 - so I didn't even bother doing anything with it. I am also thinking about trading the 8 for the Nextbook 7 for my granddaughter. We'll see.

Perhaps a difference in the way android monitors the battery compared to the way twrp monitors the battery....

The only other possibility is a bad flash... you could always reflash the ROM... if you reflash from TWRP you dont even need to reflash the size patch...

I thought about that, but if that were the case why am I always able to boot into TWRP?

splash screen an then powers off

Hi, I am fairly new to android, or at least haven't gotten deep into it, but have flashed a couple of roms. I flashed your custom rom yesterday on my n785cq8g. I actually started with TWRP, then flashed the ROM from there per instructions. Everything seemed fine, so I did the partition resize 4GB. Again, seemed fine. I installed a few apps etc. Then noticed that after I powered off, when I tried to power on, I got the custom splash screen for about 1 sec. Then nothing...ie powered off. I could push power...same thing. I thought it was the battery so I charged a bit. Turned it on, and after several tries it booted. So I let it charge over night, but today the same thing. I can't get it to do anything except show the splash and power off, or go to TWRP. I have wiped the cache data and sdcard partitions in TWRP with no success. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Returned that one too and ordered another one. Jeez. Both were for my grandson and he's not a happy camper right now either.
Hardware wise, the only problems I've ever had were non-functional HDMI out ports on a couple of Next8HD8G models, and poor WiFi performance on a variety of the Amlogic models.

Software wise.... well the firmware tends to contain some sloppy code and it's fairly basic, but it doesn't have too much bloat and overall works fairly well. I will never understand why these Chinese manufacturers think 1GB or less is reasonable for a /data partition... I wish they would all use a /data/media layout where the internal sdcard is a folder in the data partition instead of its own partition.

Support wise... there's nearly none... what support is offered is often incorrect or otherwise unhelpful...

I also got them to admit their flash tool listed for the NX700QC16G was corrupt (after them first telling me in an earlier email that it wasn't). They still won't cop to their Driver being bugged though. I guess one out of two is better than nothing, heh heh.
It sounds like they still don't know what they are talking about... NX785QC16G is the part number for the Windows Nextbook 8 version. I don't know what type of processor is inside the Windows tablet for sure, but I doubt that the firmware linked there is valid for any of their current models.

Also be advised, that the firmware currently linked for the NX785QC16G appears to be an Android firmware for an 8 inch (7.85 in) tablet with a MediaTek CPU and 8 GB RAM. Nextbook does not currently sell such a tablet in North America (or anywhere else as far as I know).

The NX785QC8G is a 7.85 inch tablet with 8GB of RAM, but it has a RockChip CPU and will not work with MediaTek firmware.

The NX700QC16G has a MediaTek CPU and you could probably flash the NX785QC16G firmware on it successfully, but the display would stretch off the edges of the screen and the usable RAM would be reduced from 16GB to 8GB...

I think what happened, was that someone at Nextbook took the update for the NX700QC16G and tried to post it for either the NX785QC8G or the NX785QC8G in place of the old update for the NX785QC8G, but this firmware was never meant for either of those two models.

Be aware of any future changes Nextbook makes in regards to firmware or new models, as I would anticipate more mistakes before they figure out what is actually wrong with the files on their site...
