    XBMC official

since there's no open thread regarding official XBMC for this great device, i'm opening one.

Did anyone try latest official version, 13.2 stable?

is it any better than Stane's or Oman's?
is aml hw acceleration enabled in it?

    Hi,
I've tried it. Only sound, no video. HW acceleration didn't helped.
    Reinstalled Oman's version.

Hey guys, why no mention of Kodi helix in this thread? It's been running fine on my M8B for nearly 2 weeks now. I have all codecs selected and everything I try plays fine apart from 1 film yesterday that the picture dropped out at 10 mins. (Mkv file from straad) and 2 failure to launch.

Honestly, I can't fault the picture quality. (It is very bright compared to the rk3188 platform.) I also own a Minix x7 which runs Kodi perfectly.

I've not tried oman or official gotham builds on AML 802 only spmc. I couldn't get spmc to work at first with the codecs but now realise it was due to the file permissions being incorrect within the firmware.

Personally I think your doing a god job testing out the various builds to find the best suited one for your requirements.

PS to other readers I don't own a 4K television so don't know if the picture quality is any good or not?

Can you please comment which file permissions have to bve changed to get SPMC running?

For Amlogic M8, permissions 666 needs to be set for:
                        Code:
                        /dev/amvideo
                        /dev/amstream*
                        /sys/class/video/axis
                        /sys/class/video/screen_mode
                        /sys/class/video/disable_video
                        /sys/class/tsync/pts_pcrscr
                        /sys/class/audiodsp/digital_raw
                        /sys/class/ppmgr/ppmgr_3d_mode
for MX additional permissions, also 666:
                        Code:
                        /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq
                        /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
                        /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

Great answer stane! I was away on holiday when "wollo" asked for the information.

A easy workaround for this problem could be: (ROOT REQUIRED)
Install kodi-helix and do initial start up so the files that need chmod are done by su.
Then uninstall kodi-helix if you don't like it?
Now the file permissions are set install any xbmc build.
                          Success!

                          Hope this helps others.

Will not work.... because on next boot permissions are lost (because these are kernel nodes, not something that is on actual filesystem). One approach would be to edit /system/bin/set_display_mode.sh and set permissions there (at end of file) like:

                            Code:
                            chmod 666 [COLOR=#222222][FONT=arial]/dev/amvideo
                            chmod 666 [/FONT][/COLOR][COLOR=#222222][FONT=arial]/dev/amstream*
                            ....[/FONT][/COLOR]

The permissions need to be set after every reboot. I used smanager with boot up script and it worked great with spmc, which doesn't set the permissions for you like kodi, oman, and stane's build.
