Would it be a possible/difficult to port Ubuntu to one of these boxes? Just out of interest.

Generally it is possible (Ubuntu,Xubuntu, Lubuntu, (debian...) also work at ARM (I use it at rk3188)) BUT not at the moment because of missing armhf libs for the GUI (stane is working to get this armhf mali libs by amlogic)RK3288 Devices
