CS918 or not... Little hint for rooting

    Hi experts,

    recently bought a so-called CS918 from Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I opened it and I guess this is not a CS918, it has the RK3188 chip and the Mediatek chips MT6622N/MT5931SA. There is a place for 2GB more ram on the PCB. The PCB says "LX_X6_V12 / 2014_03_29".

I was not able to root it with any of the tools stated for the RK3188 but could root it easily with RootGenius.

Since it shows only 720p I wonder what the forum can suggest for seeing 1080i/p. Any chance?

      Hi luke71933,

first of all I can confirm that this box can output 1080p and show movies fluently. So changing the firmware is worth it. But you need to know what you are doing. I took the advice from this thread and combined the beta firmware with the kernel kernel_KK_v4.2.5_TVBOX_MT5931_HD.img which was also recommended.

You flash it with the RKDevelopTool_v1.37 which comes with the mk809III package. ATTENTION: Prior to doing that you have to exchange the kernel.img with the kernel above (rename).

However, bluetooth doesn't work and WiFi as well. I need to have bluetooth working otherwise I can't use my keyboard. Except that, I like it a lot.

        Hi,
When I change firmware will the device be faster and more smooth even in the menus of xbmc? I was going to throw it away and get mx box because people said mx is way more smoother and faster in xbmc menus. I am not sure if my board is the same as yours, I wouldnt like to instal a not compatible firmware and brick the device. I have 2 of the devices, had 3 but sold one. I would buy more If I can get it to work faster and smoother. Mine came in these boxes , did yours too? if so they are the same and I can install same firmware as yours.
