S89-H: WIFI is TERRIBLE with Bluetooth enabled

I have two of these units. Both are the same issue. PLEASE TEST ON YOURS TO CONFIRM AND REPORT IT IF ITS TRUE!

If you run wifi analyzer, you may not see a big difference but signal strengths are more sporatic. If you run a (bandwidth) speedtest you will see a great drop. I was seeing 20mbit with BT off and about 2 with BT on. It also drops the connection and even through it sees it in the wifi settings (with full signal), it takes a long time to re-establish connection.

Online music streaming plays without skipping just barely. Youtube is almost not usable.

Please fix this. Because I have two boxes that exhibit this issue, I can only believe it is a BUG.

    Thanks,
    J

Wifi and bluetooth operate at the same band 2.4ghz. They interfere with eachother. To get the best possible wifi strength i would suggest to change the wifi channel on your router untill you get the best possible signal. However on my boxes i never got wifi to be able to run 1080p movies fine with bluetooth turned on.

      Thanks roooii for the reply!

That is a great suggestion but does not make any difference. I have tried channel 1,3,6,9,11 but saw no difference. To further troubleshoot if antenna /interference was the issue, I switched to 5ghz on my router and have the same result.

I was inspecting the PCB around the ap6330 and do not see any other integrated antenna so it looks like there's only the one that has the wire to the stick on element.

Further investigation needs to happen with the tools I do not know how to use. I can only replicate the issue and hope my explanations help someone more knowledgeable than me.

I won't give up though! anyone have the data sheet for the ap6330? Specifically for the pin-outs?

Have you tried using 5GHz wifi to see if it's an issue with interference or if it's some internal bandwidth issue?

I got some interesting graphs while using 5ghz from my router. The red line that is steady is my router and all the others are from my neighbors (I'm in a condo). I think it's evident which is with bluetooth enabled.

I did a ton of testing tonight with the 5ghz router. Contrary to what I said (I was wrong ), the 5ghz works fine regardless of bluetooth.

Does anyone have the data sheets for the ap6330? I would like to explore the possibility of a hardware mod.

Good to hear that 5ghz works together with bluetooth.

I agree it's good that it works with the 5ghz but it's not a fix.

I fail to understand why this is happening. I am almost positive I read that the ap6330 chip provides the wifi and the Bluetooth. Surely they didn't make a chip that interferes with it's self, right?

I'm giving the chip manufacturer the benefit of doubt that it is being used incorrectly or not by their reference designed circuit on this tronsmart device. This is why I am looking for the data sheets.. Speculating and hoping to find a pin out for the Bluetooth antenna and a pin out for the wifi antenna that can be modded.

But if I understand your posted pictures correctly, it seams to be a problem because of all the neighbours (too many WiFi lans at 2.4 around)...

I actually got this unit to use as an AndroidPC for my car. When I get in my car, Tasker enables the Hotspot on my Galaxy S4 and the S89-H will connect to the Hotspot. Since the S89-H does not have a gps receiver, I use the Bluetooth to connect to a bluetooth gps receiver. Its awesome btw! Thankfully my phone has the option to have 5ghz Hotspot. Edit: I'd like to add that it happens with the gps receiver NOT paired (bluetooth only enabled)

I didn't take screens shots, but it happens while driving down the road, in the middle of the woods, and no other houses/wifi around.

I suppose I can just drop the issue since I have it working on the 5ghz but I would like to solve it to help others

No problem I went off topic first. I have been writing a FULL DIY on installing an AndroidPC into the car but, I discovered this wifi issue and now I'm not so sure I want to recommend it. I attached photos as a teaser but I will certainly start a new thread sharing my car install.

So back on topic- I have gone through half a dozen different Android pcs (different chipsets) and they all suck with wifi. This is my first with 5ghz capability so, I finally have a working solution for me. I'm not trying to bash the manufacturers because, all other aspects of these boxes are awesome and bleeding edge technology. It's time to iron out all the bugs though. Click image for larger version

Just to confirm, if you turn off bluetooth it's works on 2.4 or 5ghz?

What is your wifi source? Ie: router?
