Great thread been looking for FireTV users.

I have 2 M8 S802 boxes one running openELEC they both run great and quick, both run XBMC with no problems
I am trying to decide if I'm going to get the new T8 S802 or the FireTV , any thoughts? Anyone have both or similar like the M8 and FireTV so I can hear your opinions ?

        They do work well.
If your in the USA and desire to stream the main players they just work or
using a DNS / VPN for other places in the easy.

They don't really need root unless you need to run a USB HDD and the other control things like most root devices, you can side load most apps.

Some are still been sold with older version software so they can get root if you need it.
Have a look here and read away.

Thx trebor, it would be for my main living room so I wouldn't really need anything but media on it. I do have Prime so that's a bonus too

Just as a question, it is possible to ad subtitle while watching on Prime, or change the language of the movie (German to English) ? I had a possibility to test one for a couple of minutes but I didn't find this option.

            Thx in advance.

Also check out the Sony Blu-Ray players and others I guess.
You can have all bases covered CD DVD Blu-Ray and Stream
They can stream, WiFi or Lan, Missus likes the Sony over the Fire.
Plex works well with Sony as with Fire
Just an option to ponder or confuse you with

              Cheers
