Porting PIPO U9T KitKat rom for PIPO U6

    What do you think?

Is it possible to port the PIPO U9T Riley KitKat rom for PIPO U6?

Both device is nearly the same.

As it looks to me the partitin layout needs to modified because the a U6 only got 1gb of ram.

And android system files becuase of the different resolution.

What would you think would be improved by flashing the U9T ROM on the U6? The ROM's should be pretty much equal in features.

When I've tried to port ROM's back and forth from different models, I always test using the kernel from the actual model I'm flashing with the rest of the ROM from the other model. There will very likely be something that ends up not working...like wifi, bluetooth, touch screen, back light, rotation...etc....

If you want to try it, be careful....and please report your results.

But I warn you...you may have to go through the process of unbricking if things go wrong. There are threads in the main Pipo forum explaining how it's done...but it involves opening the case and messing with the internal components.

      Hello Riley,

I would like to port a KitKat rom because as far as I know there is no android 4.4 for the PIPO U6 somehow this device is left out.

I am not scared about opening and debricking. I could solve it if I will be that point. (I think you referring to the method where shortpinning the NAND legs is required)

I think and maybe I am wrong if the new Kitkat version of rokchip loader will work on the U6 and could boot up android with stock old kernel maybe the drivers problems could be sorted out one by one.
I check the new Kitkat loader for the M7pro and the U9T and they looks the same so maybe the U9T loader will work on the U6.

My question is for exmaple if the Loader will be messed up and the device wont boot in that case the RK chip also could put in flashing mode or that point I need the shortpin the NAND legs?

Becuase my fear is if I screw up the bootloader I could not trigger the Rk flashing mode and could not falsh a valid image. If th device still remins recovarebale than I am up to experimenting with it.

The Kitkat kernels are not compatible with the Jellybean loaders.

There is quite a bit of difference in these KitKat ROM's. There is a metadata partition which doesn't exist in the JB firmware.

For that reason, you can't use a JB kernel with a KK ROM. So, without a KK kernel, the U6 won't even boot with that KK ROM.
