FULL REVIEW WITH VIDEOS of the MXiii 4k android TV Box from Gearbest

Introduction & What's in the Box

There are literally hundreds of android tv boxes out there, that's why i always try to present you with the best of the best.

This time Gearbest were kind enough to send me an MXiii 4k Android TV Box sample for review.

The packaging was very professional and it provided some basic info about the hardware ports

Opening the package we can find that it includes:

    • The MXiii itself
    • An ir remote controller
    • An AC adapter
    • An HDMI cable
    • An A/V cable
    • A User Manual
    • A USB OTG Cable

    Specifications

This device is a powerhouse and under the hood it packs some very impressive specs.

Starting with the hardware, the MXiii is powered by the latest Quad Core AmlogicS802 running at 2.0 Ghz. An Octa Core Mali-450 MP8 GPU handles the graphics and you will never run out of rammemory because it packs 2 gb. The internal nand flash is 8 gb and it's enough to install apps although the box has a card slot to expand your storage up to 32 gb

    Connectivity

The MXiii lacks an external wifi antenna but it doesn't matter because the reception is absolutely great and stable.

As far as connectivity goes Bluetooth 4.0 is supported as well as WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac which has a great reception and is very stable.

This is from my home network. Between my router and the Box there are 2 concrete walls

Plenty of ports are also available which include:

    • 2 full USB 2.0
    • SPDIF Optical Audio Output
    • Ethernet Port
    • DC Input
    • HDMI Output
    • A/V Output
    • MicroSD Card Slot

Externally the MXii has a nice matte finish on top with a nice shinny logo printed on it

On the bottom sidewe see the ventilation holes and on the sides the different ports the device has

    Software

Looking at the software we have 2 launchers. The mediabox launcher and the stock one

The first one has aWindows 8-like tile based ui while the second one has the normal android interface

Going to the mediabox settings we can see 4 tabs

The first tab is the Network Tab and it shows the available Wireless Networks. You can also setup your ethernet connection here

The second tab is the Disply Tab where you can adjust your display scale, position, and setup your HDMI connectivity

The third tab is the Advanced Tab. Here you can setup your Miracast function as well as the Audio Output and HDMI CEC Controller

And the fourth tab is the Other Tab where you can find your system information and updates as well as enter the stock android settings

    Performance

Performance-wise the MXiii is very powerfull. The 2.0 Ghz Quad Core Amlogic CPU in addition with the Octa Core Mali-450MP8 GPU give you great performance and you can see that from the scores of some benchmarks i ran on the machine.

    3D Mark

    Antutu

Video playback is excellent too and you can take a peak at the results of the Antutu Video Tester to see how the device performed on various video formats and resolutions

Gaming is also possible as the MXiii has a native support for various gamepads. In our occasion i connected an original playstation 2 dual shock 2 controller via a usb adapter and played Riptide GP2. The game ran great
