This whole sub-forum appears a pointless duplication

There's a little sticker on the Tronsmart Orion R28 Meta PCB. Peel it back and scratch off the Tipp-Ex (liquid paper/correction fluid) to reveal ... WTF

    My 2 cents:

    1) Not everyone know this (that the devices are very very very similar)

    2) Should'nt be that difference about wireless chipset? It should matter... or not?

Moreover: the fact that the brands are different, also means that we (customers) have different people to refer to for support and warranty and "official" updates (OTA and so on.. even if we can choose not to use that).

I may very well be wrong... in that case I'd really like (and need also) some explanations... otherwise, the simple facts that there is some, even if minimal, hardware difference (IF is there) and different people to refer to, IMHO, it justifies the presence of a different forum...

use the same pcba board, don't means they are totally the same, as far as i know :

1 ota update service provider is not the same. i compare the both device for OTA update, downloading the same ota file, tronsmart ota download speed is faster a lot. (maybe decided by the ota server)

      2 EMMC brand will be difference, tronsmart tell us they will also use sandisk or samsung as the EMMC brand in future bulks to make the device steady;

also the after-sale support, quality test, and selling channel are all difference.

For me, we prefer to sell tronsmart products, because they know how to run a brand.

Just my 2 cents. i am not talking other brand is not good. i just give a reason to keep those two device separate. totally different appearance, and let the end users to choose what they love.

        BTW:
It isn't really new... it's also discussed in the past at => http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...l=1#post223155

But Eric is right with his words about Tronsmart as brand with e.g starting an own support forum...

I can clearly see that beelink guys working very well to improve their FW's here. They are also working together with the freaktab experts and listening their feedbacks very carefully. Thats mean they are really care about their software and product quality. They will be always one step ahead of other brands imo

When I posted the separate forums I was not aware that the two boxes essentially shared the same hardware and left it to Bob to make the final decision.

I would have been happy with either way as there are going to be natural cross over points.

I would hope that Tronsmart users will have been keeping themselves abreast of what was being discussed in the Beelink threads as some of will be relevant and I shall continue to do so.

Both forums could be merged, even with the differences because of the brand support but it might potentially get a little messy.

On the other hand, there is of course the risk of cross posting the same things.

Whatever Bob says goes as far as I am concerned.

It's his site and is therefore the final arbiter.

I won't complain either way because I/we benefit.

FYI, the Tronsmart ROM and the Beelink ROM are not totally the same. In fact there are several differences!

A prime example is the wifi OTA update that Tronsmart has added that Beelink does not have!

I have also now (after getting the R28) noticed some other difference!

So they are not like the S802 and totally the same..... I think Tronsmart is doing something to show they have a brand they are investing in so it is not the same..... GOOD FOR THEM!

Again, even if they were EXACTLY the same, which they'e not, it's ridiculous for you to suggest that Tronsmart customers should be posting in the Beelink discussion area. Also, the very nature of this conversation is a duplicate/redundant.

I mean it is good advantage for Ubox/Tronsmart/Beelink customers. Our devices will have very good support.

My own experiences with the R28 would also seem to back up that Tronsmart does care about this product enough to have involved users to the benefit of all.

If only Rockchip had the same ethos.

Yes it has it but Tronsmart has their own and it's an APP you can run and control it rather than in settings.

I've had a lot of negative comments just for expressing a view.

I've also been asked to delete this thread - which I will do once I know how.

But for anyone interested in why I posted this then here is an explanation:

If you look at all the sub-forums under the 'RK3188 Devices' you will see grouped devices. Like
                              • Beelink/Tronsmart T428, MK908, etc
                              • CS968, CR11s & similar sticks
                              • J22, GM282, LT88, T-R42, CX919-II
                              • K-R42/CS918/MK888/Jesurun
                              etc.

Given that the underlying hardware on the R28 is the same as the R89 then the ROMs will be interchangeable. So to me it makes sense to combine posts on the R28 and R89 into one sub-forum and continue the approach to the 'RK3288 Device' forum the same way as the 'RK3188 Device' forum.

The current approach to the 'RK3288 Device' forum now seems very commercially focused whereas the approach to the 'RK3188 Device' forum was technically focused around ROMs.
