FYI, I got update.zip working!

    FYI, I got update.zip working!

    So today I got update.zip's working and can flash a 108k4 ROM via a zip update.

    However there are still a few issues I want to work out. Like erasing /data and some other little details.

    Also understand an update.zip cannot do some things the flash tool can like re-partition NAND space.

    But I will have something soon for you non-flash tool types

      Good! That frees the rest of us to focus on other stuff. Most of the functionality of rkupdater is still there so I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone utilized it to update.

      All the RK3288 ROMs are 4.4.2, so repartitioning should not be a factor in most instances.

        Well me personally I don't like we only have 2GB system APP space! There are many older APPs that will burn this up quickly including many popular games. So having a option for larger system APP space in the partition file will be of benefit to some! Changing this can ONLY be done via the flash tool!

        Making that kind of change will not happen with a update.zip!

          For now! And you're not alone in that preference for more app space, that's a very common request.

            Probably there is a way to have something like a /data/media setup at a later time, where /sdcard is actually symlinked to /data/media/sdcard like in many modern devices resulting in both being the same partition. Still then recovery's wipe data would have to be modified to spare out that folder while deleting everything else on data partition

                Using the flash tool requires you to have drivers, cables and ports available to allow communication between PC and device.

                Updating via .zip allows a user to upgrade firmware and software locally (all on the actual device) without the need for a PC, eliminating the hassle of driver compatibility, incompatible systems, etc.

                  But you do need a SDcard as it will not update from internal sd.

                    I was going to make a 108k4 update.zip but figured I would wait for 109 to come out.
                    Unless someone is desperate for 108K4 in update.zip format?

                      Hopefully, he will post his update soon. I can wait, unless you have performed some of your magic on this ROM.

                        since 109 hasnt been released i would appreciate 108 update zip so i dont have disconnect all my cables again xD
