I got my R28 yesterday.... ROM has some cool things in it that R89 ROM does not.

I dumped the stock ROM and made a flashable ROM from it.... Also expect a ZIP style ROM flash as well....

Anyway, expect a "finless" ROM from me soon!

I will say that the current ROM is pretty good and has been very stable over my week of testing.

Not much needs to be done IMO.

Some observations are:

Internal storage needs an option to be larger than 2Gb and for me, I would prefer one 16Gb space.

Wireless on the 5Ghz channel only connects at 150Mbps but this may be down to the lack of antennas capable of 300Mbps.

There is no indicator to show a wireless AC connection, so unsure if it really works from what I can see.

NTFS works right out of the box and finally there was an option to unmount a USB drive. Unfortunately, when you unmount it, your external SD card gets unmounted too and when you remount the card, any USB drive connected is also remounted. There is no separation.

HDMI bitstream doesn't seem to work for anybody, with just a horrible noise being generated.

DTS via SPDIF worked perfectly for me when using Kodi Helix Alpha 4 but when yesterdays 109k4 update was applied, whilst the settings remained the same, output was only in 2.1.

DTS and SPDIF seem to yield different results for others but I'm guessing that this may be down to different connectivity with differing receivers.

Finally able to get a screencast app working well that records internal audio too. Shou.

I could never get the box to overheat, no matter what I threw at it.

Pink screen issues were resolved for the two people that had it with the 109k4 update.

On all other devices, when they are in a switched off state, if I have ever plugged the OTG cable into my PC, this was enough to start the device but this does not happen with the R28. Not a big issue though.

When switching to ethernet, it takes longer than I am normally used to seeing to establish an IP address but not a great issue.

When copying files between the internal storage to my class 10 card, the drop off is like falling off a cliff at times, even when only copying large files, where you would normally expect some general level of consistent speed.

Tronsmart now have 3 different types of updates, which seemed an interesting and potentially useful way to approach updates.


On the whole though, for an out of the box experience, I am highly delighted and confess to being pleasantly surprised based upon past out of the box experiences.

If there is one downside, it's the absolutely RSI inducing remote control.
The worst that I have come across by a huge margin.

One of the people that compiled the supplied SDK that was an older version noted that there was a rather nice launcher called LigntHome100, which I rather like too.

Good to hear you got one too bob overall its a nippy device but the internal storage is not big enough, so if you could give us at least 4gb in our new rom that would be great or even better if its possible to have it the same as the minix x8h internal & nand shared.

As usual like on my RK3188 ROMs I will provide parameter files of 2GB, 4GB, 6GB, 8GB.

I think he is waiting for an official 109k4, because at the moment some HDMI-fixes happen and are testing by the testers...

The 109k4 update has been tested and results passed back to Tronsmart for the next one to be produced. I think that it may be imminent because the second batch of machines is due to go out this week.
