Keeping it all clean and neat!

Done some searching ...saw nothing really on this ...SO

I am wondering if anyone has an idea about how far one can go to get rid of duplicate applications ..doing the same task ...taking up space, without messing up?

Example. I have three mail handling apps on my Cube Talk 9x ...
    Gmail
    Email
    & Exchange Services (mail icon)

So can just one of those do the job? Can I delete the other two and be OK?

One thing I use is SD Maid, and it has the ability to freeze an app. If I freeze an app, and after a time I note nothing going awry, it would seem that it would be safe to delete that app.

    Right?

Love to see what others might think on this.

Of course I might be the only one to have OCD in reagrd to keeping things simple.

Well... In theory you need all three. Gmail does what it says... Email manages POP3, IMAP and Exchange accounts - it needs Exchange Services if you are using an Exchange-based email address. I believe that email will work without Exchange Services, but will not allow you add exchange-based accounts (reasonably).

Of course, you can set your gmail up as an IMAP account, so in theory you could do without gmail - but gmail tends to get new features before email, so you might not want to do that.

Equally you could get gmail to handle all your emails - but this only works with POP3 so emails are effectively moved from your email account to gmail.

Personally I would keep all three...

TB Pro also has this capability. So you have both SD Main and TB Pro, you can do without one of them...

To be honest a modern tablet such as the talk 9x has lots of memory, storage and processing power. The apps that come with it are probably of trivial impact.

Thanks for that bit of wisdom. Probably best to leave things as is.

I sometimes tend to get myself into trouble trying to tweek things a bit too tight.

Of course, when I started all this, I was a total noobe. Now just semi noobe ...but learning more as I go!

Everytime I switch my Phone/Tablet I directly go to apps and deactivate or uninstall all the apps I don't need. I simply don't like having so much apps in the launcher. I'm doing fine with deactivating all the email apps. But im using gmail, so if I understood the second post well, Gmail works everytime...

Interesting on the mail apps ...I downloaded Blue Mail for my gmail, and froze the gmail app that came with the tab. I got a message that Exchange Services had stopped.

I left it that way for a spell, and mail continued to arrive in Blue Mail.

At the same time I was seeking a better app for my contacts, and I noted at one point when installed the DW Contacts app, it failed to populate with all my contacts from gmail..

I then loaded Contacts+, and DW Contacts populated. I am thinking loading that app. reactivated Exchange Services making everything work again.

This is just recall, as I did not keep detailed notes ...but it does seem to be all connected.

Too complex for this afternoon. Have to work on it more later.

By the way ...DW Contacts has to be the best app for contacts there is. I have never seen ANY droid app so customisable. I tried Contacts+, Dejavu and others. Most want to fluff it all up with pictures and such. I just want the info!

                  Great for business!
