    A little lost ad bewildered

    Hi everyone,

Been looking through the posts over the last day or two and require a little direction. I'm hoping I have the correct sub forum

I recently bought a fully loaded M8 ULTRA 4K HD SMART TV BOX Quad Core Android Kit Kat 4.4 XBMC GOTHAM 13.1 5G which had Bobs Finless rom 1.8 already installed. (square box) It says the chipset is an Amlogic s802 Quad core Cortex A9r4 2GHz.

The problem is following . After it being super fast in the beginning and playing around with it (my fault), it has now become very sluggish, will often hang, reboot, sometimes back into android, sometimes not. I have tried the backup and as well as a factory reset. I then deleted xbmc but the problem still persisted so my mind says the problem may be with android.

What I would like to do is a brand new fresh install (kit-kat and finless) with eventually Gotham 13.2 but what I cannot get to grips with is, do I need to install the stock firmware for M8 Amlogic (geekbuying) first and then flash with Bobs finless rom or just flash Bobs finless rom ?

P.S I have nothng really to save but do I do anything specific with the data which is already under SD Card > Android ? Can it or will it be deleted anyway when flashing?

no need to install factory firmware. you can just load / flash finless 1.8 on your M8

Thank you for answering. I actually took the plunge and did just that. All has gone well.

You also checked your pcb to be shure not got a clone which maybe not working with custom rom's?

Also you should load the Oman XBMC and set the advanced acceleration settings as mention some where in this threadhttp://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?15529-NEW-Finless-1-8-for-EM8-Square-Box. It is much more stable than the standard Gotham13.2.

Yes as it seems to be a firmware issue rather than an XBMC issue. Seems like Finless 1.7 does not suffer from interlacing issues though, since it uses an older firmware.

Well guys, thanks for all the advice. I tried everything above including the Oman XBMC with advanced acceleration settings but after trial and error have found the most stable (for me at least) to be Finless 1.8 together with the standard Gotham 13.1

How do I open the box to check the PCB ? Are there screws under the rubber x 4 feet ?
