    Hi,
I've bought an exact MX2 box like this. And yes, latest Matricom (g18ref) FW up & running on this box.

However you should check the box version before try to install this fw on your box.

    greetings,
    eM

        External clue from photos...

I do not own any yet, but from my countless hours of "window shopping", I noticed something. I have seen it mentioned before as well. Looking at the rear of the geekbuying CMX box, the A/V and SPDIF jacks are opposite of the ones in other MX boxes. To what extent that is relevant, I do not know. Hope it helps you though. I am swimming in confusion when it comes to pulling the trigger on one of these boxes, mostly from CDS(China Delivery Syndrome) and budget restrictions..
        Good Luck!

              Similar jacks, different functions...

Looking at the jacks on the board views, without markings on the PCBs to identify the jacks' assignments, would make it hard to determine from those views. The jacks look physically identical from the board views. But unless the CMX in GB's photos is mislabeled or it's photos doctored, it seems opposite to me. Since photos of most other MXes show the opposite assignments. Again, I do not have units to compare. And even if they are opposite, is it a difference that matters? I don't know for sure.
As far as the "Android TV Box" world goes, I have not felt this confused, since that time I bought those magic beans. Should I be worried?

BTW For what it's worth, I asked GB what version of board the CMX used. My question/Their reply(personal info removed)...
Hello, Can you tell me what version board the CMX uses? Such as, G18REF, G02REF, MX2REF, etc. Thank you.

              Our reply:
              Dear Sir/Madam

              Thank you for your inquiry.

This item uses Amlogic 8726mx_v1.1 version board.

              Hope you enjoy your shopping

              Best Regards
Lots of back and forth on this over here(FREAKTAB Link).
              Hope it helps. -RISCy Dude

But you can identify it at the reset behind the A/V

But the reset button is behind the SPDIF jack in the CMX, most other MX boxes reset is behind the A/V jack. The rest button is in the same physical location, but the jack you stick the toothpick in, has a different assignment compared one to the other.

the instructions for the CMX say, "
                  Step 3:
Insert a toothpick into the SPDIF port on the back of your android tv box. Feel for the button hidden inside of the port. Press this button using the toothpick and plug the android tv box back in, while holding this button. Continue to hold this button until the upgrade process begins on your screen.". Source link

While most mx boxes instructions say, "

                  Step 3:
Insert a toothpick into the Audio port on the back of your android tv box. Feel for the button hidden inside of the port. Press this button using the toothpick and plug the android tv box back in, while holding this button. Continue to hold this button until the upgrade process begins on your screen.". Source link

This tends to support that the jacks are opposite between CMX boxes and other MX boxes.
Does this affect quality or which FWs can be used? I don't know.

Hmmm, maybe geekbuying is wrong, because I never heard about the reset behind the spdif, because normally the spdif is optical and so closed at the backend (also at not-optical I think it isn't able to place the reset behind this port) ???

                    EDIT:
OK, they use a no-optical spdif:

and place the reset behind the spdif:

                      what my always suggests is:

reliable seller, and NO 1 of MX in aliexpress.

MX2 boxes originals are good quality and are easily identified by the AV hole is next to the HDMI and the network socket has the 2 led's at the bottom of the box.(both reversed on cheap MX2's)
I cant believe they are making poor quality MX2's. I was not long ago the original MX2's were called clones ,now they are making clones of clones !!!!. I agree with the post above Acemax is a good place to be Shure of quality. I have had 7 for friends and family and all work flawlessly with XDA Developer's Linux Build.

                          Re: MX2 Box Question

I would agree. Go with Acemax when it comes to MX2. Flash it with Openelec XBMC and it works great.

Yes, stay away from the CMX (CloneMX?) Box, board version 1.1/ SPDIF next to HDMI/ LAN port has LEDs on top! Really cheap built board, downclocked to 1GHz, without proper heatsink.
