Run Xbmc in background, is this possible?

Is it possible to have Xbmc running in the background (to listen to music) and still run other apps such as email etc?
    Thanks

It not only is possible, it does. While watching live TV from my SPMC (modified XBMC), I go to the home screen and open the web browser. As, I am surfing the web, the audio from the live TV stream is still playing. When I want to go back to the live TV I just select the little icon that shows what apps have been opened, then click on the SPMC and it opens and continues to display TV. I really like this ability. I am sure it works on any version of XBMC.

Can you please explain exactly what you do? Because as soon as I click home or back or the recent apps option, Xbmc mutes.
I will try Spmc later just incase this is the solution.
