Bricked After Official 109k4_FW install Attempt

    Bricked After Official 109k4_FW install Attempt

    Extracted .img file to SD card, renamed to "Update.img..." install prompt like normal...Android logo came up for a little bit (with green bar), and then the screen went black. Waited for a reboot, but it never came. Now I'm stuck with a black screen. tried multiple to times to reboot, but still black.

    It's bricked! What's next? Will start reading, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Tronsmart Orion R28 Meta. Wasser Lollipop Beta 5 (very stable). Video Out: 60" 1080p LG Plasma TV-HDMI 1.3. Audio Out: Default (stable). Remote In: TaoTronics TT-MK005 Air keyboard/mouse (keys repeating). Apps: Kodi (stable), Plex (stable), WatchESPN (Stable), Amazon (Stable).

    No if you have tronsamart orion you done it wrong you cant do like that, the .img file is flashed using android tool & your pc you cant rename the file to update zip it wont work like that..sorry I cant hep you more right now I need to go to work..(get your devic into flash mode connect it to a pc & flash it android tool) that's what you need to do.

      Yes... Your device is not bricked, just follow advice here.

        He didn't renamed it to update.zip but to update.img...
        (Or he did it wrong and renamed it to update.zip, because I don't think the system will ask at / find an update.img to OTA ??? OR this way only works at the beelink/UBOX devices, but I don't think so...)

          I used the Android Tools/Relase_Driver_Assistant to successfully install 109k4.

          How I got myself into this mess:

          1. renamed 109k4 zip file to Update.zip (just like I have in the past)
          2. transferred it to the microSD card, and rebooted
          3. After reboot, I would get the prompt to install new firmware, HOWEVER, after clicking "OK" I would get an error message "Not a valid update package" (or something like that)

          So,

          4. I used WinRar to extract the .img file from the .zip file, and placed it onto the MicroSD card
          5. Renamed it to Update.img
          6. After reboot the system executed the update (Green Android guy, with green progress bar moving)
          7. Screen went black, and never rebooted.

          8. Again, Android tools/DA easily installed FW.

            Hmmm, that means, if you place the sdcard into the device before you boot it to recovery, you will get this problem, because it starts automatically to install the img, hmmm...
            OR it generally doesn't work at tronsmart... ???

              Depending on the update.img and what it tries to do, it may not install from recovery!
              For instance, if it tries to repartition that wont work!

              You will now HAVE to flash from the flash tool.

              I have not looked at the IMG file yet but my bet it added a new partition (latest RK firmware does this) and because of that it is missing and wont boot.

                No, at this moment with this version, that's not the problem...
                Structure (parameter) is the same as 106k4 (beelink/UBOX) and 108k4 (tronsmart)...
                BUT also R89 recovery don't like this file at "update rkimage from external storage"...
                I rebuild it with 'MACHINE_MODEL: R89' and then the same effect:
                1. Green Android guy with green progress bar running
                2. no HDMI output after reboot

                There must be something different at the image which I can't find out at the moment (maybe something at system)...
                (BTW: also package-file, recover-script and update-script are identical (compared with 106k4 (beelink/UBOX))
