Another N101-1 ROM which is a MORPH "Finless" ROM - Development Thread!

Hey guys, I just did a ROM by request for the Aoson M11. Turns out this thing is pretty much almost the same hardware as the Yuandao N101-1 except the screen. When making this ROM for the M11, I was able to boot this ROM on my N101-1 using a yuandao kernel and it works 100% so far in my testing!

And check this out! It adds some features like HDMI control and scaling, and also seems to fix the SDcard wake up issue! I have not tested much more of it but it appears battery life in sleep is also improved. 3 hours in sleep and battery still shows 98%. Other fixes this seems to have is I do not get popping sound when coming out of sleep or using the keyboard after waiting a few seconds.

However, ONLY more testing can prove what else is fixed! So I need more testing from N101-1 users as I dont have the time to do all that. But if in fact this is a better ROM, I will make a custom one built of this for N101-1 users.

So I need BETA TESTERS!

Instructions:
1) Download the Aoson M11 ROM here:

2) Also have available one of my ROMs like 1.6 that has all the Yaundao kernel.img's in it. You will need a Yuandao kernel.img.
3) Unzip the Aoson M11 ROM and in the FinlessROM folder delete kernel.img (your deleting the Aoson M11 kernel since we cant use that).
4) Take the kernel.img from my 1.6 ROM that you want to use. I am using the latest kernel70.img and copy it into the FinlessROM folder in the Aoson M11 ROM kit. Basically you will be flashing the Aoson ROM with a Yuandao kernel!
5) I highly recommend erasing NAND (IDB) to do this BETA test. You dont want left over system JUNK messing up your testing!
6) Now flash the Aoson M11 ROM using the Yuandao Kernel!

Others, please, let me work on this MORPH ROM before repackaging it and posting it on other forums. Let's work together on this MORPH ROM here first since this is my finding and work. It keeps all the issues and convo's in one place that I can follow to make a better ROM possibly than Yuandao does!

Spreading this all over simply means un-connected development work by many of us ROM developers! If this happens I would hate to go to a CLOSED ROM BETA test method limiting WHO can test my work!

I got 2 questions first

1. Is the O.S. level in fact 4.0.4?
2. We don't use the yuandao cwm as the Aosom m11's cwm is completely compatible?

Yes it looks like 4.0.4 but the ONLY way to know that for sure is NOT build.prop! It can lie. You will know when you use it, it is in fact 4.0.4

Yes the CWM in the Aoson is the SAME I made for Yuandao so it is 100% compatible! But I will know for sure when the Aoson guys test. But this is the same recovery for the yuandao so for sure it works for Yuandao! Unsure yet if it works for the Aoson. Only users testing will tell me.

I have a N101 second batch.
using kernel #26

first boot takes a little while as expected the M11 boot animation goes a bit screwy at first
then comes good but not full screen.
flash video appears to work with no force closes
the included youtube app has the buffering problems with HD content so i installed your old V2.5.16
no problems with HD content buffering now.
location services let google use gps is gone saving me having to turn it off

I still have the popping sound when coming out of sleep or using the keyboard after waiting a few seconds.

I've also noticed whilst viewing youtube now there is no random clicks/pops like an old vinyl record
same with audio with the default music app no random clicks/pops this was a major annoyance of mine not now though thanks Bob

nice addition to having the vol + - on the screen.

ok. i am flashing the Aoson ROM with a Yuandao kernel #70
testing:
-sound bugs on the playing video and music.
-tablet cant see USB-storage (4gb, 8gb)

then flash rom to #26 Yuandao kernel.
testing:
-havent sound bugs.

-huawei E1550 dont work (work on stock rom)

After playing around with it last night untill it needed charged I have to say it works damn well.

Did not have a chance to check sleep drain, will try later

Using kernel 338 from finless 1.6 I had NO SD CARD WAKE AT ALL. Also transferred a good chunk of data with NO CURRUPTION ( itmight still be a problem but it did not currupt my 8gb fat32 card)

Using 338 popping noise is still present upon wake (not every time)

Not important to me but antutu bench was 7950 (kernel 338)

Right now I am using kernel 70 but will try others when I have time. But thats why I ask for testers to see what the best combo is.

The USB storage can easily be fixed. It's a mount issue.
3G stick can be fixed too

So some more reports from everyone so I know what all needs to be fixed.


Has anyone tried the HDMI controls that now show in settings? Would like to know if that actually works.

Yeah lol it was 1 of the first things I tried.

Alright so I have a second batch n101 and am running kernel#70

The hdmi settings I see is

• Turn on Hdmi
• Hdmi resolution
• Screen zoom

They have the same values and effect as I noticed in the 1.6 Rom kernel#26 anyone else see anything different because I don't .

Cons:
A problem I see with this rom is when I click the systembar it takes like 3-6clicks just to bring it up once and the widget from settings.apk has 1 less option.(location toggle)

Usb drives don't mount but you know that.

Also does the build.prop have deepsleep because if not it takes a couple of seconds to react to waking? Probably why it has less power consumption in sleepmode.

Has no usb.host permissions so had to add that also to get my xbox360 controller to be seen by usb/bt joystick app.


Pros:
A plus which some might not know yet when you press (power & vol -) it still takes screenshots so that feature carried over with the new system.img.

All my gameloft games that ran on 1.6 are compatible so it has a good library/drivers.


Conclusion:
Overall I'd say similar experience to 1.6. In my opinion nothing is really new. I haven't tested sdcard corruption or anything like that tho so that may be the scale tipper.

continue with my testing
- USB OTG does not work (as you wrote it is fixable)
- HDMI freezes the tablet (fewer options), this was the first native firmware
- After a long sleep is not working touch (#70), on #26 the problem is not identified
- Seen one WiFi hanging (previously never happened)

- During sleep actually discharged battery is much less (#70), on #26 1-1.5%
