Measy B4A Problem - Can anyone help?

I hope I am posting this in the correct place - I believe the Measy b4a is the same as the Tronsmart Vega S89 and the Beelink S82; ( a round one is a round one...).

I was having a few issues with XBMC displaying poor video, so I contacted Measy who have sent me the 108k4 rom for this device, but I cannot install it as the micro-usb end of my cable does not reach far enough into the case to make a proper connection.

I therefore thought I would have a go at installing the Finless rom using a micro-SD card.

    BIG MISTAKE!!

I carefully copied all the extracted files from the zip onto the FAT32 formatted micro-SD card, as instructed in the readme, and carefully took said micro-SD card and ever so carefully inserted it into the appropriate slot. I encountered no resistance and before I knew it, the card had gone through the hole and dropped down into the bottom of the plastic measy box!

The micro-SD card slot is recessed into the casing by such a huge amount that nothing can be inserted into it! I now know I should have used a pair of micro-SD tweezers, but I don't have any.

So I have no micro-USB slot and no micro-SD card slot, and I have my micro-SD card rattling around inside a plastic case that appears to have no way of being opened.

Does anyone know how to open the case of a Measy b4a without totally destroying it? Any help, as ever, gratefully received.

    Thanks,
    Steve

You will find the screws under the rubber feets....
    => http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/05/...erial-console/
best case you don't need to remove the pcb (because it's tricky to place it back)...

BTW: you can also use a USB device (also fat32)...

      Hi there,
Are you saying I can use a USB stick to perform the upgrade to Finless? Are the steps any different from those to upgrade from SD card?

If I can upgrade to Finless using USB stick, I will leave the damn thing alone.

Unlike many of the others, the B4A does not have three rubber feet, it has a strip of plasticy/rubbery/foam-like material glued to its base. I have pulled the foam away from the base where the diagram indicates the screws should be, but there are no screws, nor does it feel like any are present anywhere under the strip.

If I pulled the foam strip off completely, it would never go back as it requires a lot of tugging which pulls it out of shape.

      Many thanks for your help,
      Steve

        hmmm, ok I see

I thought they use 1:1 same case...

Maybe I understand it wrong, but the SD is now inside the case?
"... the card had gone through the hole and dropped down into the bottom of the plastic measy box!"
Consider, the SD have metal parts with can cause a short circuit but if you are sure it is under the pcb with metal parts upside down, then maybe everything is fine... ???

Yes you can use it nearly the same way via USB... you only have to select another source at recovery at "... from EXT..." ...

          Hi,
Yes card is inside, but the box is working ok. i made sure it was at the edge under the USB ports - should be OK!!??

I will try upgrade tomorrow, and will let you know how it goes.

Would still love to know how to open it. I have asked Measy, but so far nothing.

          Thanks again,

Hi as an owner of measy b4a i can help you its easy but a little tricky the first time so you have to be patient there is no screws.
You will need a credit card or some kind of a plastic card or a plastic knife you will start from the front where the light indicator is see the picture

and you will aplly a little pressure upwards in the split between the two plastic cases you will work around from the right or left in some point you will hear some clicks it's the plastic clips that joins the case as you will work your way to the back there will be a little bit more resistant so be carefull and finally when you will see that all the clips are opened DON'T force the upper case too violent because the wifi antenna is glued to it.
I hope you will get it opened with my instructions.

P.S. when you opened it it would be a good idea to replace also the shitty thermal paste that has with a better one i use arctic silver mx 4 just jiggle the heatsink right to left some times and should be pop right out for your convinience to remove the heatsink easier let the measy open for 5 - 10 minutes

              Hi there,
Thank you very much for your detailed instructions on how to open up the b4a. I will give it a try when I get home (I don't like having the micro-sd card rattling around inside!). And I have some thermal paste.

I will let you know how I get on.
              Thanks again,

                Hi again,
Yesterday evening I successfully installed the Finless 2.0 rom into the Measy, and it seems to run well. It is a vast improvement over the stock rom (105k4) that I had before.

Thankyou very much for your help. The USB upgrade worked like a charm!

The only problem I have with the box now, is that BBC iPlayer no longer works, (no video - audio only) but XBMC works great (was the other way around on the previous ROM!)

                Any ideas about iPlayer ??

                Thanks again for your assistance.
                Steve

                    Hi there,
The real iplayer app looks a lot prettier than the xbmc plug-in. That's the bottom line.

The box belongs to my parents who like the pretty pictures.

maybe you should test one of the older finless versions... (maybe 1.9 is ok, I think I read that you are not alone with this problem at stock 109k4 which I think is use by finless 2.0)
(worst case go back to older stock or older finless then 1.9)

                        Hi,
I have tried Finless 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0 but, on my device at least, the following don't work:
                        iPlayer
                        4OD (Channel 4)
                        Demand 5 (Channel 5)

I am at a loss as to what to try next, as I cannot use the usb (or micro-sd card).

I have the 108k4 and 109k4 roms, but they are *.img files. Can I install them using a usb drive?

                        Thanks,
                        Steve

Hi there, thanks very much for the response, however I have done a bit of searching, and found out that...

BBC IPlayer does not work properly under Android 4.4.x the video doesn't always start, and when it does it will probably fail after 15-30 minutes. The BBC are aware of the problem, but didn't fix it in their last update.

Channel 4 OD (4OD) has been written to NOT work on rooted devices (!) so that's the end of that.

I am going to stick with the Finless 2.0 for now. It seems smooth and quick (Antutu score over 40,000), so my parents will just jave to use the iplayer addon to XBMC (which I hope works - haven't tested it yet.).

                              So thanks again.

One day I will fully remove the case and attempt access to the micro-usb port.

                              But not today!

                              Best,
