Amlogic S82/S82B Models still XBMC "black screen, only sound Problem in all images

    Hi Folks,

I own a Andoer S82-B mOdel (like any Clone of Tronsmart, Beelink and co. it has 2GB of Ram).
It is "rooted" by using finless 2.0 (and in former times I ve used many different Images based on JB).

As many "Amlogic" Users of XBMC (even with OMAN, SPMC, or "individual compiled", or "nightly builds based on HELIX) there is a problem when "streaming" Media (especially 1080I or other HD stuff) like you do when you are using "Live TV" functionallity in XBMC (e.g. as a client for TVheadend ).

Since month there is no solution for the problem when "switching channels" (or changing media during play e.g. UPNP/DLNA Sources) that XBMC is buffering and (when it happend you only can restart XBMC to resolve this) you get after the change : "a black screen/no video, but audio plays well in background".

This problem is already known, but only a "workaround" (to switch off acceleration in XBMC settings) is available :-(.

This "workaround" makes at least watching (in Europe VERY COMMON) Live-TV streams based on 1080I (interlaced video) nearly impossible (stuttering, bad picture...not usable !)....and many other formats too . A To switch off a real good AMlogic GPU accelleration is no real alternative :-(

I investigated, that many people which have this problem too (and it is mentioned that "in former times" the root rights in some images could sollve the issue ... sometimes ...). Since I have tested NEARLY aNY IMAGE (all including root access !) and combinations of XBMC, there is still this problem on all S82 based boxes

In the meantime some "russian developers" had presented an "LINUX BASED" Openelec image where this problem IS NO LONGER A PROBLEM (but currently there is only a image for MX3 1GB Version, S82 compiled Linux images of this developers currently dosent start in corecct resolution .)

My question is, does someone know an ANDROID image/XBMC combination where he can watch (and zap :-)) live TV channels (especially 1080I) channels/streams without loosing the picture (= black screen, only sound) ?

    @to XBMC developers/Experts
I think it still has something to do with "buffering" and/or root access to "HW Amlogic GPU" ressources ?! in XBMC !! (decoding is done by a LIB like FFMPEG which is delivered together with the XBMC installation). Maybe someone can solve this Issue in the NEAR future....

When this is solved AMLOGIC ANDROID/XBMC combination is the best solution for watching Live-TV/Mediaclient for everyone in Europe FOR UNDER 5W power consumption !

At the moment I´m still using a HTPC´s (with more than 30 W power consumtion) which i realy love to change !

    Kind regards arel
Hope to get Feedback/aDVICE FROM YOU MY FREINDS

My Amlogic M8 4 core was doing the same thing. after hours and hours of test and internet research and LUCK, i happened to find the fix.

In the System, Settings (making sure that "Setting Level" at the bottom/ left of the page is set to "Expert"), select "Acceleration"

    use these settings

Render method (could be greyed out if not, select hardware or auto detect) Auto detect
-Enable HQ Scalers for scaling above 0%
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Decoding Method Hardware Accelerated
-Allow multi threated software decoding (could be greyed out) Leave unselected
Allow hardware acceleration (amcodec) Leave unselected
    -Allow hardware acceleration (libstagefright) Selected
-Allow hardware acceleration (Mediacodec) Leave unselected
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Reset above settings to default

These settings finally worked for me after weeks of trial and error. Hope they work for you too!

Thanks a lot forthis hint. It will work for most/all Video formnats. The downfall is that you completely Moose Hardware accellariotion power oft the arm device (amcodec).
In General HD Videos will Stifter sometimes...also the 1080i Format ( which is very common for most HD channels in germany) will not play without stuttering and deinterlacing (which is mandantory to have an acceptable picture quality for many channels) is not available without using
      amcodec

So i'm still depending on support oft the developers oft xbmc amcodec etc.

Jever the LEDs thanks for sharing your experince with libstagefright.

      Kind regards
      Arel

I also have this issue but I do own an official Transmart S89 Elite (at least it was sold as one...).
I also tried a lot of combination of images and versions of xbmc but I just gave up.
The only think that I can use (and still has issues) is AMLinux from stane.
None of the releases of Openelec (from amlinux.ru) work (it gest stuck in the openelec splash screen).

I'm 1 step away to sell this crappy box and buy another rpi (I know its slow, but at least it works).

Is there a way to check if I've been sold a clone box??

        Edit:
Forgot to mention that once the box arrived I had to re-solder the HDMI adapter as I had no signal... isn't it a great product?!

Combine it with a crappy amcodec and you will get the most advanced Android device
