R28 - Can't Use External Storage - "Preparing Storage: Checking For Errors"

    Hello everyone,

I just received a brand new R28 last night and have been enjoying setting everything up. It seems to run real well, but I've noticed that I can't seem to use external storage. I have tried a 2GB flash drive, 32GB micro SD card in the slot and a 3TB external hard drive and with each it behaves exactly the same.

A notification appears that says: "Preparing Storage: Checking for errors"

The notification never changes, and I can't find the external storage device. I am using Root File explorer. I checked for a OTA update, but it says there are none available.

    Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Which file-system-format do you use?
Do you remove it secured at the PC?

I'm not sure that I know what you mean, but the SD card and flash drive are both formatted fat32. I don't know about the external hard drive

For what its worth, I've used both the flash drive and the SD card in a SD card reader with my OnePlus One. Neither had any issues with that device.

I have only seen this error on my R28 once with the SD card and I simply formatted it in my PC and it's never been seen again.

If, as no_spam_for_me has alluded to, you do not safely eject a device from your PC etc before inserting it into another device, then it can cause issues until you so so correctly.

Worth double checking and trying again.

I have experienced on previous Android devices though, a situation where some brands of SD card just don't work well in some devices.

              Thanks for the help everyone.

I put the flash drive and the SD Card in my laptop and removed them properly and that's all it took to get the R28 to read them correctly. I still haven't figured out how to get the external hard drive to work, but I'm happy having the others for use.

Thanks again! I would have never thought something so simple was causing my problems.

I forgot to mention that there are 2 partitions in that hdd. NTFS and FAT32.. Funny thing is the FAT32 partition is not detected..

Ive had a similar issue (well not really, cause for the love of god it would not detect extFat partitions, but my other boxes did but would not detect Fat or NTFS).
The notification of the prepering storage stays on my r28 the whole time pretty much as long as the drive is connected. The amazing thing is that it detects it and its ready to use right after that message pops up.
I have a 2TB NTFS drive with a single partition and it detects it instantly. Try browsing yours via a file manager by going to mnt/usb_storage

If that doesn't work, try creating another partition on your hard drive, like a small one (few megs). I have a USB drive whose contents could not be seen when using the R28 and the drive was NTFS. I created another small NTFS partition and made my main one as the primary. and it showed up. I was expecting it to be the same for my 2TB drive but when i plugged it in, it worked without a problem. Go figure. Must be a glitch. Possibly with KitKat (when not using OTG, cause those can only mount Fat32 drives) when using a device that has standard USB ports.
