Need to reset / reinstall A31s firmware

    Hello everyone,

I am new here and just discovered this wonderful forum while searching for help on recovering my malfunctioning Android TV box. I'm an old school IT guy (I used punched cards at university computer classes! :-)) and my Android skills are still new, so I kindly ask for your patience.

The Android box is a non-branded unit that uses a Boxchip A31s Cortex A7 CPU and is running Android 4.2. I am using it only for XBMC. Basically, I think I made compounded mistakes whie trying to install a new APK which caused a series of problems rendering the unit failing often. I think the best and least effort solution would be if I can reset it or install an upgraded firmware with the same Android 4.2 or later. Once this is done, I can reinstall XBMC and go back to normal.

I need your help in identifying which firmware should I use, where I can download it from, and how to install the new firmware?

    Thanks all!

    Well...
    You could try,
    Desktop/settings/backup/ choose 'factory restore'
    And hope for the best..

    Goodluck

I tried to run Reset (in Settings).. It said it was erasing data then displayed a screen in Chinese and am not sure now what to select or if it is working and I should leave it alone. Does anyone here read Chinese?

I clicked a key on the remote and it took me to the unit's startup screen so it seems to have worked. (thanks for the tip mitchell4you).

Now I have a different issue. When I sign in to Google Play it keeps showing me "No connection - Retry" even though I am connected to the Internet (Ethernet).

Oh, I am very well acquainted with your situation! I took university computer classes too long ago when Android skills were not that crucial.
