CWM and my 701c...a little confused...

Hi guys. Was thinking about giving CM10 a go and was a little confused about a few things:

    1. Is CWM recovery needed? If so, I'm not sure about a straightforward way to flash my 701C to do so.
    2. Even if #1 isn't needed, I'd still like to know how to flash the recovery to it.
    3. Even if #1 (and #2) aren't necessary, how do I flash the compatibility zip (specifically trying to follow William Kleiman's instructions:
(1st wipe device so our install is clean)
    select install zip from sdcard
select choose zip from external sdcard
    select ROM_WIPER.zip
    select Yes - Install ROM_WIPER.zip

    What am I missing?

Clockwork Mod Recovery is needed. The way it works on the 701C is a bit different than I've seen before. It installs as an app then when you open the app you have two options:

    1)install recovery
    2)reboot into recovery.

Obviously option one must be done first (and a reboot before going back into the app for option 2 is recommended).

Once you reboot into CWM (option 2 from the app) there's an option in there to "Install zip from sdcard". You simply select that from the options (using hardware keys on the tablet home=up menu=down back=select and power="previous menu" as the touch screen doesn't work in CWM) and it will show you files on your Micro SD Card (micro sd card is also required for CM10 install) select the zip files in the order specified (williams instructions) and then use the power button to go back in the CWM menu to select a factory wipe.

I organized the files by step here (load these on your micro sd card):

Clock Work Mod APK (must have ICS installed before attempting):

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks! if you had a 'thank you' button I'd press it :-)

Wow, so I've had CM10 now for a few days on my 701c and I can say...WHAT A DOG! MUCH MUCH slower than my factory 2.3 GB ROM! When I hit the home button it takes anywhere between 3 - 10 seconds to arrive....

I'll try CM9 to see if there's any improvement but if not I'm going back to stock!!

        Kind of disappointed...

          try the onda 4.0.4

thank you for your response. I was thinking about "upgrading" to CM 10's jelly bean. Thanks for the time saver.

Well I went back to the 'latest' stock firmware. I haven't revisted Onda's firmware, but honestly I've learned a tad bit about the I/O scheduler difference and the stock ICS runs pretty well with SetCPU at 1100 and Deadline (instead of cfq)....

I might try Onda tomorrow, but CM9 was no better, though AOSP looked interesting-might try that again too if I have time...

Update: I'm trying Onda now to compare-definitely faster than CM10. Interestlingly, it 'feels' somewhat slower than the stock (!!) but I'm going to play with it a while before switching to stock...
