    Allwinner a80 the RK3288 killer?

    Noticed today that Tronsmart are off the blocks with the release of 2 new models based upon the Allwinner a80 octacore GPU.

    http://www.tronsmart.com/products/android-tv-box/tronsmart-draco-aw80-meta.html

    SATA and USB 3 as additional features, although only HDMI 1.4b.

    With the added power of the new CPU/GPU, do you think that this might start to kill off interest in Rockchip boxes?

    hi bluesmanuk,

    Tronsmart Orion R28 Meta is open source ( rom custom )

    Allwinner a80 is no open source ( no rom custom )

    I believe !
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    For the moment the Tronsmart Draco AW80 Meta :

    Antutu = 55000 ...

    GPU = ?
    CPU = ?
    Boot in linux = ?
    compatibility APK = ?
    Sata ext = ?
    USB 3 = ?

    Why Tronsmart sells box android, without test ( video youtube ) ?

      From what I have read so far, the SDK comes with current purchases, so that will likely give rise to opening things up for custom ROM's.

          Ah nice. Finally the next A80 device.

          There are only a few devices based on A80 so far. I don't understand why it is so quiet around this new platform.
          It seems to be an interesting octacore concept and soon allwinner will release another octacore variation - the A83.

          For sure it is fast, but 55000 antutus, I don't believe that. Onda seems to fake antutu before with an A80 tablet, from what I read.
          The real antutu value should be around 40000 antutus.

          So it could be a hot alternate to rk3288 devices, the gpu of the a80 system is very good.

          Still the question,why there are only a few devices out there.

            The funniest thing about this particular signature of mine is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

              ICU, they had the device not in their hand. I wait for the first serious review.

                  I believe the specs, but I'm not so sure with the antutu test results.

                      It seems that Bob has one on it's way, so we should be able so see it's potential soon.

                      Interesting comment on CNX about the price being close to that in intel based NUCs, where things tend to work out of the box.

                        I'll order one to play with after we have confirmed operating and as good as the specs show.

                              which one to choose from a80 or rk3288?

                              Hi all, new joiner here. As i am trying to get a new tv box, I been going throughout the forum on all various section pertaining to tv box and have come to the conclusion that rockchip rk3288 or the alllwinner a80 would be the best option to go for at this point in time. I am leaning towards a80 but still have some questions:

                              1) looking at the raw antutu score, a80 is much higher than rk3288, but does this score really translate to actual performance?
                              2) would a80 be customizable? i saw that there are custom roms for specific box of rk3288 models but a80 is just too new that i don't see any at the moment?
                              3) xbmc and video support - i assume they both have about the same specs and results more or less in terms of support of file types/extension etc?
                              4) would the ram make any diff to the performance? ie. 4gb ram rk3288 better than 2gb ram a80?
                              5) should i still got for a80 that seems to be future-proof (at least for a while longer) or to go to the more stable and proven rk3288?

                              sorry if some of these have been answered but i already tried my best to read all the discussion possible that i can find.

                              Thanks all.
