    help(!) bricked my mk808b (newb!)

    Hello all,

I recently acquired this MK808b android device: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ALSZNLW

It ran well, but I needed it to allow portrait mode, which it wouldn't do with software, or in the settings. In hopes that a new ROM would be the ticket, I downloaded and installed this finless ROM from this page: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...inless-ROM-2-1

Hasn't worked since. Probably should have taken a closer look at it, but I didn't. My fault entirely.

I'm uploading some pics of the inside. There is an orange wire that isn't connected to anything - I'm wondering if it broke off, and from where? I put some electrical tape on it. If anyone knows where it goes, please let me know - I have a good solder station and have built things from SMD parts before.

I would sincerely appreciate some help getting this device working again - thank you in advance if you can help.

It is probably a new version with the Realtek wifi, for which you will need the Prahjister ROM.

    or

The wire is for the antenna, you may have separated it from the case when you opened it, but it attaches to a thin antenna that is taped to the case. If that is not the case and you are good at soldering, you may want to make your own.

      Thank you for the reply.

I tried the first one and it installed, but didn't boot at all. Tried to get the second one, but it says I have to ask permission on google drive or something?

Also appreciate the info about the wire. There is a black wire going to the piece attached to the plastic (assuming that's the antenna. The orange wire is near it. Seems strange - there was no exposed wire there, it did just break off.

I got the same model today. The orange wire is not broken. Mine looks just like yours. It fired right up and works fine with everything working.

Looking for a custom ROM now that will work with wifi. I need to find the thread, if I remember correctly this model is called a Green unit or something. Finless has a ROM for it, I just need to find it.

          Thanks for the reply.

Mine used to work, lol. I just needed it to run in portrait mode for the application I'm using it for.

Please let me know if you find a ROM that works. Thanks for the confirmation about the wire as well!

OK, I got mine back up and running (thankfully!) with a ROM from this thread: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...e-kernel-file)

            Specifically, this ROM: https://mega.co.nz/#!iV0hgS4b!ELMBLE...HN2YwW3nnRMxjU

So far so good, even managed to get it spun around in portrait mode!

Is that the stock ROM for the stick?

No, but it works great for my needs. It's even rooted.

oh yeah, definitely back yours up before messing around with it!

Its a nice upgrade but my device is still not rooted after installing the ROM. Have you found anything else that will work?

Found a copy of Netflix that works. 2.0.2 works with a little buffering, but you get clear picture and sound.

The ROM I posted is rooted - I was able to edit the system properties and perform other root functions. I don't have it nearby, but it was a super user type thing where it asked for permission before it allowed root access.

I found it. There are two ROMs with the same name on that thread. The 466MB one is rooted. Works great. A little laggy with netflix movies but overall fast and clean. Thx for the heads up.
