If the 704 is like other (late-model, at least) Polaroids, it's already fully rooted out-of-the-box. Still, you may want to install SuperUser or SuperSU so you can keep track of what's trying to get root access.

        +1

I was only able to install superuser and supersu by first installing busybox available from Google play.
Busy box updates existing and adds new Linux commands.
Superuser and supersu when working correctly, will show a popup box when a program first tries to access root.
When you allow access it is trusted and joins a list viewable within the application itself.

Kind of like a firewall to protected area access.

There were a lot of confusing posts concerning semi root. Semi root, IMO, is functionally rooted.

704 does come pre-rooted out of the box.

i installed Google apps and then installed a simple root checker, it came back as rooted. Next I installed superuser and found some issues with that, so tried SuperSu every thing works great now. I have also installed Rom toolbox, busybox, changed the animated boot screen, and overclocked it to 1140 mhz with out issues, anymore than 1140 gave me freeze ups. I also freed up some ram where now I run a average of 175 mb compared to the 230 mb I was running. All in all i am pleased with the device for a toy to tinker and develop with. Others may overclock better than mine with the right tuning, I believe ROM toolbox will let it clock much higher than the 1140 I am running. Would love to have Clockwork mod recovery available for this device. BTW when I bought mine it had a bad format on it and caused it to start as if it were the first time everytime. I downloaded Livesuite and install the 704 signed original rom which repaired the problem with the factory format issue. to my knowledge i am the only one who has experienced this problem. If you notice issues and other symptoms. Shoot me a message I will be glad to help out as much as I can with both hardware and software problems.

CWM 6.0.1.2 is available. I'm not 100% sure where I got it but I think it was here: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B4...psVzA3U00/edit
This contains a bunch of ROMs and stuff William Kleiman built back in October. Drill down to Polaroid->Tools->nandi and you'll find 'recovery.img'. This supports tablets with 9 partitions and a "Home" button. If you have 10 partitions, you can modify vold.fstab to point '/emmc' at 'nandj' rather than 'nandi'.

If your tab has a "Back" button, you may want to use one of my mods of the original - they come in 9 and 10-partition versions. Get them here: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B3...J5bF80Yzg/edit
They reference the Polaroid PMID4311 but should work on any Allwinner tablet.
