M8 or m8n problems

Ok I've been buying m8 but not had a problem. They've replaced them with m8n but what is the difference? I am getting 2 meg on m8n but m8 next to it gets 27 meg. Is there a firmware I should use? Is the firmware the same as the M8? I mainly use it to run xbmc but also want/need it for the play store and other things android.
