OK I have changed my main box!

OK so just making this post to let folks know.... this really is all about my Wife and our main TV.
SHE IS EXTREMELY PICKY about video and color....

I was using a AMLogic S802 box (Minix X8-h) as our main box to our TV for Netflix, XBMC, and NAS....
Prior to that is was a RK3188 box (Minix X7). The AML S802 just had a better picture on our TV!

This just got switched to the AllWinner Tronsmart AW80 Meta...... PERIOD!

None of these TV boxes are perfect! They all have issues! But for what my Wife and I like to watch... This All Winner box is now our set top box PERIOD!

NAS streaming is perfect and the fastest wifi speeds yet!
Other boxes I had to run a Ethernet cable as Wifi would not handle it off my NAS. NOW.... Wifi works baby!
I freakin LOVE IT!

So I am just letting you know, this is now my go to box! The Wife LOVES the adjustability of color and contrast etc too! She is picky especially stuff of XBMC that may need some color or contrast changes.

Sorry RockChip and AMlogic... YOU JUST GOT OUT DONE! A80 is my new box!

Following closely your insight and feelings about this TV Box; I think I just get a little discouraged with the HDMI 1.4b port on it, but anyway 4K-30 fps resolution can be get with this port, and in some how thru SW get H.265 support; as you say there is not the perfect box, but this is the more close unit to that with the power of the SoC, connectivity and the quality of the overall system. And with the confirmed upcoming Ubuntu FW (Tronsmart) and the new upcoming Lollipop FW prior to the end of the year (Geekbuying word) this is the most promisory TV Box on the market; and one extra that is not minor, your support. Time for Rockchip and Amlogic to up their game then because with a recommendation like that, I suspect that many new prospective purchasers will go straight for the AW80.

I am still deciding to get this but was abit disappointed when browsing the tronsmart support forum. The support from the vendor is barely there. Do you flash any new Rom or using it out from the box as is? Any other problems using this box? Someone was telling me he have problem with the airplay function, do you have such issue?

Anyway, am really tearing my hair deciding between this n the nagrace hph... haha

I am using my own custom ROM.

I have not tried Airplay yet (I don't really use it as I have the mirror cast box if I want to do that). But I will mess with Airplay this week.

I will say the HPH box is nice and seems to be well supported by Nagrace! Tough choice between the two boxes. They are both top notch. But I really like this A80!

That means ur rom n support would be the added advantage for me to get this box. Think I am getting more n more tempted towards this a80.

let me know if you managed to get the airplay working as that is something that I need to use. If it works I guess I'm sold more or less. . Haha

In the end it basically depend on the needs. Allwinner a80 seems ok, but my experience with allwinner has always been terrible, and they are never fully open source. It's a bit expensive in my opinion too.

I personally use an M8 with OpenELEC and very happy with it.

But yeah, those wanting Android my guess is that a80 or RK3288 are the choice

I was looking at this exact box a week or so ago but after reading this review:

..... I think I will keep waiting for something that crushes my Minix boxes before I think about replacing them. I would like a kick butt Android box that handles Plex perfectly, can access Google play store (and play any and all Android games with no slow downs, has no problem with Google hangouts or Skype, can play any and all media files I throw at it (ISO, h.265 in particular).

If the recently released Nexus player didn't have so many weird problems and was a little more "open", it might have been the box to get. I am starting to wonder if the Android OS is ever going to be a viable platform as a TV box. I think it's being shoehorned into a role it was never meant to fill and we need to look more towards Linux friendly mini-pc TV boxes.
