Help! Factory reset for Q7 box

    Hi everyone,

I am newbie here. I bought my first android smart TV box from ebey (http://www.****.co.uk/itm/1113615127...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT). On the back of the box, it says “model: Q7”. I guess this model belongs to this forum.

Here I have a big problem now. I received the item a few days ago. Today I have time to use it. I accidentally ticked the Developer Option->Secondary Display. Then the box keeps rebooting itself. It can boot to a main screen with several overlapped same screen on top of it. After a few seconds it reboots. A few seconds is not enough to allow me to go to the Developer Option->Secondary Display to disable the Secondary Display. It drives me mad.

Does anyone know how to resolve it? Or how can I reset the box back to the factory settings?

    Many thanks,

    Adsi

    Via recovery:
Press the micro-switch under the device and power it on without any device at the OTG...
It should boot to recovery, where you also be able to do a factory-reset...

Thanks for no_spam_for_me's help. I did press the recovery botton under the device and power it on without connect any device at the OTG. The device only shows a dead android lying on the ground with the chest open. Please see the attached the image (captured by my mobile, so quality is not very good). Did I do something wrong?

Can I actually flash a stock firmware to recover it? If so, where can I find the stock firmware for my Q7 model?

      Many thanks.

hmmm, you only show a part of the screen, but normally at top of the screen you should see a menu list...

I did not see anything from the screen apart from that lying down android. I took the photo again and attached here. Any idea?

No, sorry... maybe they use a stripped recovery?

If you are able to use ADB (if you also enabled 'USB debugging' at [Developer Option] you can try
            Code:
            adb reboot recovery
(if you get a connection to PC during this few seconds)
but I think you will get the same result...

Use moborobo to install the drivers http://www.moborobo.com/ for "Android Composite ADB Interface" (after the setup you can uninstall it, because it keeps the drivers after that)...
For ADB use the version by neomode http://www.freak-tab.de/neomode/adb.zip ...

Hi, I installed the moborobo, then make the Q7 box enter the recovery mode by pressing the recovery botton. I see the android lying down with chest open on the screen. I connect the box with my windows 7 laptop using OTG cable. The windows 7 compains the no driver found for rk3188. I tried manually update the driver in the device manager but failed. I downloaded a RKBatchTool and tried to point the folder to driver in /drivers/x64/win7/. However, the windows 7 said "Windows could not find driver software for your system".

Did I do something wrong here?

                  Many thanks

"Did I do something wrong here?"
                    => Yes

The box needs two different drivers at PC, one for e.g. flashing and another one for ADB...

"I see the android lying down with chest open on the screen. I connect the box with my windows 7 laptop using OTG cable. The windows 7 compains the no driver found for rk3188."
=> I don't know which driver the PC need at this situation (because I never tried to connect to the box at Recovery), but if it need the one for ADB (I think so) you have to install and/or execute moborobo at that moment to install these driver...
BUT normally this is something you have to do at that moment the device is at Android and not at Recovery (and I know that is a problem, because you are maybe not long enough at Android because of the restart after a few seconds)...

Do you mean the ADB connection needs the box in android mode? I will give it a try tomorrow. The trouble is the box keep reboot in the android mode every few seconds.

If I need to the driver in recovery mode, does the driver in RKBatchTool fit the purpose?

                      Thanks,

NO, not the rkbatch drivers (NOT the ones for flashing) you need the ones for ADB (which will the moborobo installing for you)...

Because of the fast reboot at android, maybe the settings at android are correct and also it dosn't reboot too fast, you will be able to connect to it with adb...

Before you install drivers you can try to find out if the PC is recognising the box if the OTG is connected to the PC during the boot to android (I think if it connects you will also get/hear a 'pling' and see the message of missing drivers)...

If the connection is long enough you can try to do
                        Code:
                        adb shell --wipe_data
or maybe you have to use
                        (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...adb-in-android)
                        Code:
                        adb shell recovery --wipe_data
                        or maybe
                        (http://android.stackexchange.com/que...no-recovery-no)
                        Code:
                        adb shell wipe data
maybe via a .cmd file so you don't have to type the command at that moment the box connet to the PC but only click the batch file at the explorer...

Here you can find how the recovery looks normally
Introduction The purpose of this guide is to help users understand how to use the default Android System Recovery image that is installed on the Nexus 10. Note that if you have already installed a custom recovery image such as Clockworkmod...

                          Hi no_spam_for_me,

I finally wipe the data using ADB shell and make the Q7 box return to the factory state.
                          Here is what I did.

                          1. install driver following the link http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php.../#.U0YzaFdw1B4 (download Release_DriverAssitant.rar)
                          2. unzip adb.zip
                          3. connect the Q7 box to PC using OTG cable , under windows 7 command line, type "adb shell". (I found the box can accept the ADB command at the very early stage.)
                          4. under the shell, type "wipe data"
                          5. job done. The TV box returned to the factory state.

Now I have a little bit confidence to play with this Q7 box. Maybe give it a new firmware. Before I do that, I would like to back up my current firmware. Do you know how can I dump the firmware from the box?

                          Thanks a lot.

Nice to hear we find a way to fix the problem...
Only way to find out which pcb version it uses is to open the device (four screws under the rubber feed) and have a look at the printed information at the pcb then you will maybe find a (working) custom rom or another maybe better stock rom...

                              I have a Q7 clone i think http://www.alibaba.com/product-detai...38.35.1.CCGHer

Rk3188 and when i press the recovery button i see a fast reboot in recovery it whipes everything and then reboots in to android again.

I tried to connect it to my pc with otg cable and tried to flash it with rkbatch flash tool but it does not regonize that it's in recovery mode (i installed al rk drivers etc)

I think it jumps to fast out of recovery mode any idea how to flash it ?

Current fw has problems with audio in Kodi (Audio stutter) want to try some custom roms.
