You've read in my other thread why GeekBuying didn't publicize this rom, i.e. not enough of a change from the first one. But I did find that it handled 1080p playback in XBMC somewhat better than the original.

What surprised me at first was that a) the rom is labeled as a "CX" rom, which is for another manufacturer's device, when in fact it's from Tronsmart; b) there had been no mention of its existence anywhere.

I think because sunchip develop the rom's (I also think hand in hand with allwinner) and I think it's an beta for internal use

That's very informative, thank you. Tends to confirm my suspicion that there's one source re-appearing, with light variations, in different boxes.

This rom works very well too... no problems, perfectly smooth playing a 7.5gb 1080p movie over wifi. A long tracking (dolly) shot was absolutely without any jitters jerks and had no dropped frames.

Good to hear it. This would be the "secret" Tronsmart rom, yes?

Yes, when it boots it has a tronsmart logo, build is kot49h20141205, the (not yet removed) navigation buttons include a power icon for shutting down. I like that!

Yes - that one and the Sunchip rom also linked in my thread are the two best-in-class at the moment.

BTW, I read your interesting exchange with Minix elsewhere...I have the Minix Neo x8, and I can tell you, it took 9 beta roms, seven months, a new SDK and a lot of angry customers for them to be able to preen themselves on video fluency. They achieved it in the end - and if we persevere with the Draco, we will too. That's why I hammer away for continuous improvement, and we're off to a good start.

(Moreover, we have the option of getting there with Linux too. To this day, the Minix has no Linux rom).

I just noticed that no live wallpapers are supported! Not a major issue bit I was going to get cheezy with an Xmas animated background... I tried 6 and they all appeared to be installed, showed up in apex or nova's wallpaper selection interface, but when selected, none worked, app missing or some message like that. ...
