If you are using a player that uses hardware sound decoding you will get 2Ch.
If you use a player that uses software/pass through then you will get 5.1
None of these Android TV/sticks have 5.1 hardware decoding, but all can pass the raw bits through the HDMI cable you just have to use a player that allows it.
Once I get my iMito I will try out lots of options that I've been reading up on and let you all know what works, but I am thinking that something from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1803871 might help.

Then connected by optical cable from SPDIF to my AV-Receiver - an now the exciting moment.... : unfortunately only Stereo downmix again...
Perhaps must the ffmpeg-plugin for MX-player support/configured for 5.1 ? it looks like the ffmpeg-plugin is decoding the DTS-Signal and forwarding it as an analogue 2.0 signal to the audio HAL...

maybe this could help...
I´ve read in the linux-forums, that the asound.conf is to customise, when you will get a real 5.1 output.
#alsa can help
this is an example for a terratec-card
[1 #This asoundrc is for the CMI8738-MC6 only.
#It plays any sound sample through all 6 speakers.
#It also allows for the playback of 5.1 streams and 2.0 streams at the same time.

# 6 channel dmix:
pcm.dmix6 {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
ipc_key_add_uid false
ipc_perm 0660
slave {
pcm "hw:0,1"
rate 48000
channels 6
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_time 0
buffer_size 5120
}
}

# upmixing:
pcm.ch51dup {
type route
slave.pcm dmix6
slave.channels 6
ttable.0.0 1
ttable.1.1 1
ttable.0.2 1
ttable.1.3 1
ttable.0.4 0.5
ttable.1.4 0.5
ttable.0.5 0.5
ttable.1.5 0.5
}

pcm.duplex {
type asym
playback.pcm "ch51dup" # upmix first
capture.pcm "hw:0"
}

# change default device:
pcm.!default {
type softvol
slave.pcm "duplex"
control {
name "Software Master"
card 0
}
}

# for aoss
pcm.dsp "duplex"

pcm.dsp1 "duplex"
In principle should it be possible to configure the (blue) CMI Card or HDMI-passtrough on the same way... Sadly i havent enough experience to make it self...
Then is to configure audio_hw.c and audio_policy.conf like the following
