what file controlles the brightnes level. ive tried a brightnes control app but when i close it the brightnes goes back to normal.

Can't you just use the slider in your settings?

I should of added a little more to that i want to make my screen darker to save power, and because i use it at night and its too bright.

So you have gone into system settings, display, and turned off auto brightness, and moved the slider all the way to the left?
