    EKB328 RK3288 Device Bricked?

    Hi,

I purchased a this device from ****. It turned on only one time and after I turned it off, I have been unable to turn it on again! I didn't try to flash any new firmware or reset the device or anything.

I have tried to reload the firmware, but after holding the reset button and then the power button, the device does not register or install any driver on my PC. I think the unit is bricked!!

I wanted to know if I would try to reflash using the SD Card slot or using the EMMC short method. Both of which I know nothing about. Any help or guidance in the right direction would be really appreciated!

I tried to get a refund and send the unit back but I have to pay $80 for return shipping to China! Just trying to make something out of a bad situation...

Just to add a little bit more about what I've tried.

    - Many different attempts to get into loader mode...not recognized by PC
    - Used different power supply

I think my only option is to somehow get this unit into maskrom mode....but I cant find the chip that needs to be shorted....

Im stumped and hoping one of the more experienced members might have a solution or some guidance for me.

      hmmm...

What OS at the PC? Maybe have a look at http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...-box-read-this!!!!

If I'm not wrong, but if the PC doesn't recognise the device (also as 'unknown') you aren't able to fix it with mask-mode...

Does this EKB has any LED? I think without any activity at LED there is no chance to get to mask-mode...

Last but not least you can try to boot e.g. an 'XP PE' or 'XP live CD' (google will help) from an USB-device (use e.g. this http://www.isotousb.com/ to burn the iso to the usb-device)... But you have to install the need drivers and so on at this version(s) (maybe also SP3)....

Thank you for the response and the suggestions.

My PC is running Windows 8.1 x64. The device does not register at all. This is why I don't think it's a driver problem because Windows doesn't even see an "UNKNOWN DEVICE". I tried your suggestion of using Windows PE but still didn't work.

The problem with the unit is that when I hold the power button, it should turn blue after 3 seconds. It just stays red.

Here is an exact sample of what I've tried:

        1. Plug EKB3288 into PC with MicroUSB cable.
        2. Plug in power adapter. Red light comes on unit.
        3. Hold the reset button, and then hold the power button. Is the light supposed to turn blue? It just stays red. No driver installation or recognition of device pops up on my PC.

Is it possible to try to reflash the unit with through the SDCARD slot?

OK, but because of the LED that means your system is still alive so mask-mode seems to be an option...
NO way for flashing via SD-card...
(BTW: I also know one guy which also have the effect that his win7 installation isn't able to recognise his box, also not as unknown... he only get it connected after a fresh installation of win7 and later not (I have no idea what he had done at the win7) http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...l=1#post237711 )

I will try to connect with a few different version of windows from USB tonight. I will also try on a couple other laptops.

If that doesn't work, how do I get the unit into maskrom mode. I have search around quite a bit but haven't seen how to do it with this board.

I opened the box and found that the Board says ENY-Q8P-V10. It sounds like it the same board as seen in this post.

                Hey man.

Nice to see so many other users with my box.
I wanna start another thread in next half our to try to bring mo123's rom to run on our box.

Infos about maskrom-mode you can find here. (you should use the )
This seems to be the newest rom.
And here are the right driver.

If you do the maskrom procedure, please make screenshots (for example with snipping tool) and create a new thread here. That would be nice xmas presenst for our eny-area and help other users like you to find a tutorial.
