Hello everyone, so I got a little problem here. A friend of mine gave me his non-functioning TV-Box and by the looks for it, it was one of those t-r42, k-r42, cs918... and so I opened it up and it is a t-r42 according to the description on the board, which states B351_V2.0 and cross checking it with geekbuying post http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...351-V2-0-board
Well I have read some posts here about the power supply issues and this was the right hint on the way to fix. I used the power supply that came with the box and it indeed powers the box but just only for 5 seconds and then it powers off. No picture from the HDMI. I also noticed the leds sort of blicked when I used this power plug. Connecting it to the pc maintains the box on, with leds still blicking. I tried reset button, short pinning etc.. with no sucess. So I used a power supply from an old d-link router with 2.5A and the leds no longer made this sort of blinking. Also the power supply that came with the box does not turn the d-link router on (which just requires 1.2a and this power supply has 2a) so I was getting a little happier as I found the problem here. With the new power supply still no HDMI picture so no chance for recovery or anything.
After some couple of tries I was able to short pin it. But then I had the drivers nightmare. It was so difficult to get this thing to work. It was recognizing as a usb unknown device and not allowing me to choose the drivers other times also as unkown device but of some other sort. I´m not sure if its a problem with the box but Im finally able to get to recognize the box as this unknown device "of some other sort" and installed the drivers. Tried all versions (3.0, 3.5 and 3.7) and had a bit more sucess with 3.0, however all other drivers would work now and then. Some times I would have to restart the computer for the drivers to load on and the flash tool to work. I have read so many issues with this box that I´m writing the most detailed post so people having the some issues can at least have some guidance. This post was very helpful for me:
It seems a lot of people are having issues with this box so im not sure where the problem lies. The drivers installed and recognized while trying to flash are "rockusb device" I wonder if they shouldnt be called "rk31".
So in any case it is a pain to get this thing to be recognize on the computer. Reset button doesnt work. It just worked two or three times out of so many tries. I had a lot more sucess with short pinning but still. It is very unsure and many times I have to turn it on and off more than 10 times and try short pinning for it to enter in maskmod. I tends to be more likely successful if you turn it on and try short pinning in the first 10 secs. if it does not work after this time frame forget it. Power it off and try again. Sometimes a deep poweroff will make it also more sucessfull(push power button 1min without any cables connected). When it is recognized by the pc some times I have luck because it is identified as rockusb device other times it is just identified as unknown usb device and I have no luck trying to put the right drivers, im not sure if its a problem with the box or the pc recognizing it wrongfully sometimes. I also have a question relating to maskmod. On the RKBatchTool it always showed me a greenbox and never a bluebox which people say is when you are in maskmod.
In any case the times it worked I tried flashing it with rkandroidtool v1.37 with finless flash tool and also with RKBatchTool and the stock firmware geekbuying provided in the linked posted above. None of them work. Since the box is dead i suppose I need to flash everything, kernel included etc.. So I would have to use rkandroidtool or finless flash tool with firmware-wasser-0.92-4.4.2 instead of the stock firmware img provided by geekbuying and I suppose my box kernel is kernel-t-r42-new right?
Everytime I tried to flash it the furthest I went was to the testing device with a counting numbers message that never reached the end and the box disconnects itself from the computer and I get an error. But lately not even so, it just straight disconnects while "start to reset device".
Well everything is failing here. I thought about JTAG but cant find any JTAG on the box and so now I was wondering if I can update it via SDCARD. I read this post about mk808b and other devices, I was wondering if it would work on this box? and what files would I need to put on the sdcard?
I will attach all the pictures and screenshots below, hopefully you are able to help me here.
